Previous entry: "Dr Gillian McMahon- My Road Map" Main Index Next entry: "Minister of State Tom Kitt- My Road Map" 06/09/2005 Entry: "Niall Quinn- My Road Map" Looking back at my final year in secondary school which would have been in 1983, I really didn't know what I wanted to do.My mother was a teacher and also my sister so I suppose at the time I would have been expected to have gone on into further education.
I had always been quite athletic, playing hurling and soccer at an early age.It was during the second month of sixth year that I got a call for a trial at Arsenal. The trials were to last for one week. I seen it as an opportunity at the time and arrrived in Arsenal with a spirit of adventure.
While there I realised that I had a confidence problem. I was training with other 15 and 16 year olds who all wanted to be the best and believed they were the best. I on the other hand didn't think like this. I returned to Dublin after the trials and within a short space of time I was offered a three year deal as a professional with Arsenal. This offered me security so I signed with the attitude of who knows where it will lead.
While at Arsenal I got called up to the Irish Youth Team. Pat rice a guy involved in the Youth Team led me down a path I am grateful for. Instead of consolidating my strengths, he encouraged me to focus on my weaknesses. So I started practising more with my weak foot and spent hours perfecting my headers.

HOME SOCCER RUGBY CRICKET ... EPL Fantasy GILES FILES: EPL Season Preview Story Tools: Print Email Giles Elliott / FOXSports.com Posted: 1485 days ago Who can stop Manchester United? It seems impossible. Ten points better than the rest of the English Premier League last season, champions for the last three years, and then Ruud van Nistelrooy and Juan Sebastian Veron go and do a deal with the Devils. My crystal ball has, however, been kicked around enough to get a little skewed, so here's the Giles Files on the prospects for this 10th EPL season. 1. Liverpool. Treble cup winners last year, the Gerard Houllier revolution at Anfield now rolls on towards the championship. Needing only to make one addition to last season's squad, much sought-after Norwegian youngster John Arne Riise, Houllier clearly feels he has his blend right. The Reds have also gained the knack of beating Man Utd and have even inherited the luck of their Manchester rivals. Key Man: Jari Litmanen - with all the talk of Owen, Fowler and Heskey, don't forget the Finn. 2. Leeds Utd. Liverpool apart, Leeds were England's best and most stylish team in Europe last season. David O'Leary, like Houllier, already has his team in place, but with Harry Kewell now fully fit, plus Rio Ferdinand and Robbie Keane both bedded in from the start of the campaign, Leeds look faster and stronger. Second best though will leave O'Leary to state that the Whites are just a bunch of kids, as he heads off to Old Trafford. Key Man: David Batty - has a winner's medal and a winner's mentality.

He's living here in America, 'on the road' away from his beloved English game. Each week, to stay cool, this crazy Daddy-O will take on all challengers with his picks for the hep cats and the squares of the EPL. So, drop your bongo and e-mail Beat'Nick with your picks and comments Every week we'll choose one groovy guy or gal to face off against Nick. If you're our choice, we'll send you a FOX Sports World T-shirt, no matter how square you might be. Well, Beat'Nick certainly had his hands full against Philly native, Jazzy Joel Zuercher. The West Ham fan made some daring picks that paid off handsomely, but his blind devotion to the Hammers probably cost him the victory, as Beat'Nick edges out a 7 to 6.5 against the lad. (We gave him half a point for his cleverness.) win Of course, Beat'Nick gave us the best pick when he foretold Gazza's woes of yellow and injury. The jury was inlcined to even the score given Joel's bold prediction on the Boro v S'oton match, but Nick's whimpering got to us. This week the Prem takes a little breather as attention turns to a World Cup qualifying weekend. If you think you've got the stuff on the international game, send your challenge to Beat'Nick. Poor sod hasn't got much else to do.

On the 26th December 2004 an earthquake measuring 9.0 on the Richter scale struck the area off the western coast of northern Sumatra. The event triggered a massive tsunami that inundated coastal areas in countries circling the Indian Ocean rim.
Over 225,000 people died in the disaster, with over 500,000 injured and 5,000,000 more left homeless. It is now over two months since the worst natural disaster in living memory claimed those lives.
On a day-to-day basis the disaster may well be out of the headlines, but in the countries affected, millions of people are struggling to come to terms with its devastating after-effects.

Oh dear, oh dear. England do have other forwards, and some of them aren't that bad ( Robbie Fowler Alan Smith Francis Jeffers ). But something tells me we'll see two hornless rhino's playing on the 6th of October. Greece - meet Andy Cole and Emile Heskey. I'm sure you've heard about them, they'll run all night, mis-control 80% of near perfect passes, miss a hatful of chances put on a plate for them and generally make Michael Owen I still think we'll win the group mind, Germany will lose (or maybe draw) to Finland in Munich and England will bore us to death with a 0-0 draw in Athens. Needless to say we will create chances and if we do score it will be through Beckham (free kick) or Scholes (30 yard drive/header from corner). As for the rest of the weekend, stop moaning Sam Allardyce . Intentional or not - rules are rules - and Ricardo Gardener made contact (as the last man) with Dennis Bergkamp and prevented him from reaching a ball which was a clear goalscoring opportunity. What if we lose to Nigeria? if Sweden turn over Argentina we'll be alright won't we? All your questions can now be answered so long as you have a copy of Microsoft Excel. The all things footie world cup calculator will work out group standings (including goal difference rules) for all of the World Cup Groups, and detail the fixture set up for the second round. The path to the final is also included so you can see just how unlikely it is that England will reach it. Former captain Keane slagged off the Republic's World Cup preparations quite rightly sent him home and Keane has announced his international retirement.

Since June the 3rd i have been travelling around the globe with my better half. I will be going to the Russia v Ireland match on saturday but i am back for good afterwards!!!
I started off in the World cup and went to the Ireland games against the Saudis and Germany. WOW , they were amazing.
the tournament was brilliant and exciting, shocks happened a plenty and the Japanese people were arguably the most humble and deserving people of the WC. I have never heard or seen a more deserving country of the cup. They embraced every country, foreigner and teams with delight and supported them. All countries could learn a thing or two from them. Any Japanese person on this site should be proud of their countries staging in the summer. i cant say anything on Korea as I wasnt there but i reckon they did pretty well also.
Well done Hosts............
The Stadiums were amazing, clean and had good access and proper facilities to accomodate fans. Its a shame that Fifa shgged up on the accomodation side but if thats the worst thing that happens then tahts not too bad.
After the Wc I travelled to Australia for a month, New Zealand for 2 weeks, Hawaii for 1 week, and to San Francisco, Las Vegas, LA, New York, Cape cod and Boston over the space of the remaining month!! What a trip and its all ending in Moscow for the Ireland match. Starting with the WC in tokyo and ending in Moscow in the Euro Championships!! I couldnt of dreamed it better!!! Except an Ireland Victory would make it that bit more special!!!!!!

Robbie Keane was played in at close range to hit high into the net from close range after Niall Quinn won a header against Carsten Ramelow and man-of-the-match Oliver Khan finally conceded. Germany were on the brink of becoming the first nation to qualify for the second stages of the World Cup finals with a win over the Republic of Ireland until their defence cracked in the 92nd minute. Miroslav Klose is the top scorer at the final after recording the 19th minute winner which was his fourth of the tournament. Klose has now hit 12 goals in 14 games for the Germans and he stooped to head in a free header after Michael Ballack clipped a ball forward at an angle from the left wing. Ireland responded by taking charge of the game in Ibaraki.
