FAI Junior Cup Quarter Final
Fairview Rgs 6 FAIRVIEW Rangers have carved another chapter in their pretty impressive history when they qualified to play in next season's FAI Senior Cup preliminary rounds with the possibility of games against Cork City, Limerick FC, St. Patrick's Athletic or Shamrock Rovers adding spice to yesterday's quarter-final game in Galway. Conditions for the game couldn't be worse. Driving wind and rain made conditions pretty miserable for both players and supporters alike. Fairview couldn't have asked for an easier passage for they totally dominated this game from start to finish. This match had great similarities with an encounter two years back against Roscommon team, Cloonfad when a poor pitch and a gale blowing down the field saw that Fairview XI gather their resources and give one of their best displays in recording a 6-0 win and going on to lift the FAI Junior Cup. Similar conditions on Sunday saw a repeat of that performance, this time resulting in a 6-1 win with the hope that this team can now go on and lift the trophy yet again. On this display it is well within their grasp. This was probably Fairview's best all-round performance to date in the competition with every player giving an excellent display whenever called into action. With a 4-0 advantage at half time the Limerick side quickly added No. 5 early in the second half and whatever little hope Kiltullagh had harboured, thereafter evaporated.

By AIDAN CORR Bord Gais Opera Gala
THE Bord Gais New Year Opera Gala 2003 comes to the University Concert Hall, Limerick on Thursday, 23rd January at 8.00pm. Audiences can look forward to a spectacular evening in true New Year Opera Gala style. The programme is brimming with sparkling operatic gems from the world's best loved operas, performed in a drawing room setting and introduced by the knowledgeable concert narrator, John O'Flynn. Once again, director Deirdre O Tuama has attracted an exceptionally brilliant cast, which includes the young Italian tenor Roberto Aronica who is now emerging as a major world star. He possesses one of the most stunning lyric tenor voices singing on the world's opera stages today, and regularly takes over from Roberto Alagna as the principal tenor in the premier opera houses around the world. One of Ireland's leading young sopranos, Alison Roddy, makes her debut in the Opera Gala series while Italian baritone Angelo Veccia will also make his first Limerick appearance.

The girl's parents and coaches were so proud of the girl's excellent hustle and good sportsmanship. It was obvious to the stand in coach that the Bunnies had eaten carrot fortified cereal for breakfast. The Bunnies offense was incredible with awesome passing by Hannah, Emma, Melanie and Sophia. Other great offensive contributions were made by Maya, Cassidy, and Claire, who scampered around the field in true Bunny fashion. The Bunnies defense was amazingly tough with the Cheetah Girls constantly being driven back. Defensive contributions were made by Cassidy, Emma, Andrea, Melanie and Claire. The Bunnies goalies were magnificent with stop after stop being made by Cassidy and Ashley. Aoife and Coach Fitzgerald - We missed you !!!!!!! Go Soccer Bunnies !!!!!!

Women's soccer camps in second year By Erin McPhee newsroom@nsnews.com A local program is dedicated to giving women the skills and confidence to get in the game and make sport an active part of their life regardless of their skill level. Sarina McKenzie is the head coach and program coordinator of Women's Only Soccer Camps. She founded the program in 2003. "It really was founded to bridge that gap for women who wanted to be a part of a team sport but didn't have any background," McKenzie said. McKenzie decided to start the league after she suffered an injury. At this point, it seemed like coaching was her best way to stay involved in sport.

Knosher retires as athletics director at Knox Harlan Knosher announced his retirement as director of athletics at Knox, effective June 9. After a stint as an assistant basketball coach at Northwestern, Knosher joined Knox in 1960 as assistant football and head baseball and men's basketball coach before becoming athletics director in 1968. Since then, Knox athletics has grown from 10 to 21 varsity sports, and Knosher has overseen six major construction projects. The latest venture, a natatorium, is scheduled to be completed in the next few years and will be named in Knosher's honor. Knosher also has served as head men's golf coach since 1968 and has led squads to the last six Midwestern Conference titles. Dan Calandro , a 1977 graduate of Knox, was named as Knosher's successor.
