USL Stats Countdown to Dallas Mariners host Dallas Burn Friday at 7:30 p.m. Courtesy of the Virginia Beach Mariners 16.Mar.2004 Virginia Beach, Virginia - The Virginia Beach Mariners opened their 2004 training camp March 10 to prepare for an exhibition with the Dallas Burn Friday night at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex. Kickoff for the match with Dallas is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. This game will feature a matchup of the two top scorers in Major League Soccer history. Mariner forward Lassiter is currently the all-time leading goal scorer in MLS history with 88 goals. Dallas forward Jason Kreis is just two goals back and is looking to break the record this season. Mariner forward and leading scorer Dante Washington played for Dallas from 1996-1999 scoring 17 goals and six assists. Midfielder Hamisi Amani-Dove also played for Dallas, appearing in six matches. Other Virginia Beach players ready to take the field will be forward Roy Lassiter, goalkeeper Matt Nelson, and midfielders Roland Aguilera, and Daniel Alvarez. In addition to the forward line and in the nets, the Mariners defensive backfield will be intact including Russell Hutchison, Steve Danbusky, Kevin Knott and Richard Mahoney. Other players who hope to be wearing a Mariner uniform when the season starts will be in the lineup, including defender Max Sanchez, Josh Hill, Mark Jonas, Jose Gomez and former Mariner Christof Lindenmayer. | |
