Beach Soccer - Brazilian players
As described in the history page , much of the success of beach soccer is owed to the migration from famous players from the grass fields to the sand courts; in the first world championship, in 1985, the best players, ellected by the fans, were Zico and Junior (Zico was also the main striker, with 12 goals, the same as also famous Italian players Altobelli, who played with the Italian national team for several years).
A few other well known Brazilian players had participation in beach soccer, such as (to cite only those who participated in the FIFA World Cups) Branco (who scored the third goal against Holland in 1994), Edinho (played in 1982 and 1986), Paulo Sergio (second goalkeeper in 1986) and Edmundo (France, 2000). Occasionally, mostly by marketing reasons, players still active (like Edmundo and Marcelinho Carioca, playing in Japan in the 2003 season) are invited for single matches (usually in a Rio x Sao Paulo or other inter-States challenge).
However, this is far from being the norm. The players mentioned above were not retired field players who decided to move to the beach. Instead, they had always been beach players (all the Brazilians mentioned above had professional careers in Rio, and were frequent attenders of the Copacabana beaches) who happened to have success in the field soccer, and returned to the beaches after retiring.

No, It's Not By Rob Hughes International Herald Tribune Wednesday, February 2, 2000 It was never the lynch mob that some observers described, but when five Manchester United players crowded around the referee during an English league match last weekend, things were more ugly than the sport of soccer should tolerate. The scenario is becoming dangerously commonplace in a game where players, now among the highest earners of the human work force, see themselves as celebrities untouchable by the law. Manchester United is the most successful team in Europe and its mentality is the following: If people do not love the club and its style, that is their problem. Its players seem to believe belligerently that they are right and that anyone who rules otherwise is wrong. This is a problem for the sport at large. But the flashpoint on Saturday came before a crowd of 61,267 spectators and a television audience of millions. Jaap Stam, Manchester's dollars 17 million Dutch defender, was surprised by the darting run of Juninho, the Brazilian forward playing for Middlesbrough.

PRINT PAGE EMAIL ARTICLE ) Font ( ) Font World Cup? The Dream Can End in A Second By Rob Hughes International Herald Tribune Wednesday, February 4, 1998 In Madrid on Sunday, Juninho, the effervescent Tom Thumb of Brazil's national squad, was scythed down from behind. Reduced to tears, stretchered to the operating theater, he simply asked: "Doctor, and the World Cup?" Dr. Pedro Guillen might have replied, Son, forget the World Cup. He actually said: "We will have to see how things go." Then surgery laid bare the severity of the wounds: The fibula in the left leg was fractured, the ankle dislocated, ligaments twisted and torn. "Doctor, and the World Cup?" "Things were worse than expected," the surgeon had to admit. The injuries will require four months to heal. The World Cup is barely four months away. Since players must prove that their fitness and form are at a peak, Juninho is realistically lost to the tournament.

Soccer Gaming Forums Soccer News Soccer Forum Your Soccer Career ... PDA View Full Version : Free-Kicks 23-06-2005, 09:41:AM I was talking to a friend these days about the style of taking free-kicks. I really wanted to know which one is the most effective, but we didn't agree.
So which free-kick taking style is the best? Beckham, R. Carlos, Ronaldinho or Nakamura style? Nimreitz 23-06-2005, 09:51:AM Beckham. If you can bend the ball, the wall doesn't even matter. Robbie Carlos just blasts it into the wall every time and once in a blue moon he gets lucky and scores. Someone like Beckham can just bend and contort the ball in such a way that he can put it anywhere on goal without hitting the wall. 23-06-2005, 10:04:AM Nakamura has the same style, but he puts more effect on the ball.
I've tried the Beckham style a couple of days ago, all the day long, but my back started to hurt because you had to "extend" yourself each time you had to bend it, if you know what I mea :) henry#14 23-06-2005, 10:42:AM Forget the Beckham style or the other ones you mentioned. Try Juninho Pernambucano's style.

Rhinos sign former Islander
Rochester Rhinos News Release - www.rhinossoccer.com Thursday, July 28, 2005 ROCHESTER, NY Rochester Raging Rhinos Vice President and General Manager Chris Economides announced that the team has signed midfielder Edivaldo DaSilva.
DaSilva, also known as “Juninho” (Ju-NIN-yo), appeared in 10 games with the Puerto Rico Islanders this season, collecting five points (1+3) before being released by the club earlier this week.
Last season, the 31-year-old native of Juazeiro, Brazil, appeared in 23 games collecting five points (1+3) as well.
Prior to his time in the USL First Division, Juninho has built an impressive playing resume. Before joining the Islanders in 2004, Juninho played for Novo Hamburgo in the Bolivian B Series. While at Novo, he was named the third best foreign player in the Bolivian League. Juninho began his career with Barra da Tiuca of Rio de Janeiro in 1995. He has also spent time with Independiente Petrolero Sucre of Bolivia and C.A. Bizertin in Tunisia.
“Juninho is a very skillful player that can hold onto the ball and create plays on the field,” Rhinos Head Coach Laurie Calloway said. “He adds a great technical quality to our lineup and has the ability to play a midfield or forward role that can score goals.”

Romario was one of the players who were at odds with Luxemburgo who was fired after the Olympics and he was back on form with a first half hat trick in eight minutes. Caretaker coach Candinho saw this healthy away win put Brazil back into contention for one of the four qualifying places for Japan and South Korea after two recent defeats under Luxemburgo. After a reasonable start from the home team Brazil struck five goals in an 18 minute spell. Debuting striker Euller started the scoring in the 21st minute when he ran clear from midfield for a neat finish. Juninho Paulista added a second in the 29th minute with a diving header when a cross by Romario reached him in front of goal.

Irish boys get off to
good start with a win
by Andy Colquhoun, Cape Town
IRELAND's Under 17s lived up to their playing reputation but blotted their copybook with a sending off as they began their assault on the third leg of a youth football triple crown with a deserved 2-1 victory over the Meridian Cup hosts South Africa.
Their greater composure and superior organisation saw them take a 2-0 lead at the familiarly named Athlone Stadium before the sending-off of midfielder Jimmy Goodwin threatened to upset their equilibrium.
"As I was walking out of the box I was kicked on the calf," said Goodwin afterwards. "I swung round and kicked him back. Fair enough that I got the red card but he should have had one as well."
German referee Herbert Fandel made the dismissal on the advice of his Ugandan linesman and the subsequent penalty - converted by Gabriel Mofokeng - gave the outclassed South Africans a glimmer of hope.
The sending-off and two bookings were being interpreted by South Africans as proof of Ireland's perceived reputation for robust play but, in truth, they displayed nothing of the sort.

Kluivert turns back on United in favour of AC Milan
by John Curtis and Simon Stone
PATRICK KLUIVERT has turned his back on a £9 million move to Manchester United in favour of staying with Italian giants AC Milan.
Kluivert's proposed move to Old Trafford has been called off following talks between the Dutch World Cup star, his agent and Milan chiefs.
It is a shattering blow for United boss Alex Ferguson who was hoping Kluivert would spearhead United's bid for Champions' League glory.
And Ferguson's hopes of landing Dwight Yorke have also suffered a setback with Aston Villa boss John Gregory accusing United of dragging their feet over a renewed bid for the Trinidad and Tobago striker.
The move for Kluivert appears doomed after a meeting attended by Milan's director-general Ariedo Bradia and agent Sigi Lens ended with the 22-year-old agreeing to stay at the San Siro. Kluivert was also linked with a move to Arsenal earlier this summer but that fell through and he will now stick to his current contract, which runs until June 2001.
United, who had missed the deadline for the Champions' League qualifier against Polish champions LKS Lodz, had hoped the deal for Kluivert would be done in time for him to make his debut in Sunday's Charity Shield with Arsenal.
