G-14 say NO to FIFA and World Club Championship
The G-14 Association - a grouping of the most powerful soccer clubs in Europe - has decided to defy FIFA President Sepp Blatter by voting to boycott the FIFA World Club Championship next year.
President Blatter refuses to talk to the G-14 saying it
has no official standing within soccer institutions.
The World Club Championship was first held in 2000 when it was won by Brazilian club Corinthians but the second tournament was cancelled when ISL - FIFA's marketing partner - collapsed with financial problems.
Fifa intends to resurrect the tournament next year as a six team competition with the champions of Africa, Asia, Concacaf and Oceania playing in a first round knockout group - the two winners progressing to meet the top European and South American clubs.
G-14 says that its members already have enough matches to play and Karle-Heinze Rummenigge speaking for the Association said:
"No club from the G-14 will participate in this Fifa competition. We refuse to play the World Championship and our decision is final."

Beckham Leads List Of Injured Internationals
POSTED: 11:57 am EST March 29, 2004 Paris, France England skipper David Beckham leads a rather long and illustrious list of injured footballing stars who will be forced to watch from the sidelines as their respective national sides take to the pitch for a day of international friendlies as they continue to prepare for this summer's European Championships. In addition to Beckham, who will sit out England's clash with Sweden with a calf injury, Frenchmen Patrick Vieira and Zinedine Zidane, Italians Filippo Inzaghi and Alessandro Del Piero, German Miroslav Klose, and Michael Owen Beckham's countryman and deputy captain will be missing from their squads. Sven-Goran Eriksson's English side has been especially depleted. Along with the absences of Beckham and Owen, Ashley Cole and Kieron Dyer are missing with injuries, while Sol Campbell, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Frank Lampard and Wayne Bridge weren't called up as they have been afforded long-awaited rests. With so many stars out injured, the usual excitement surrounding friendlies has been replaced by an air of complacency. Despite the ho-hum attitudes, much attention with be paid to the 16 EURO 2004 qualifiers. Their fixtures include: Netherlands vs. France, Germany vs. Belgium, Sweden vs. England, Spain vs. Denmark, Portugal vs. Italy, Ireland vs. Czech Republic, Bulgaria vs. Russia, Greece vs. Switzerland, Croatia vs. Turkey and Slovenia vs. Latvia.

Italian passion: Forza Azzurri! Whoever wants to know the heart and mind of Italian men had better learn soccer, the rules and realities of the game - and do it by watching a soccer match LIVE amidst the cheering of soccer fans. There's a glimpse of Italian passion for soccer on every street corner in Italy: young children playing soccer dreaming to become the next "Alessandro Del Piero"; university students arguing and boasting for their favorite team's victory every Monday morning; a retired gentleman guessing and filling in his totocalcio scorecard. Soccer was introduced in Italy in the late 19th century (the Federation was born in 1898 and the national team in 1910) and since then is far more than just a game for Italian people: it comes nearly to be a religion of its own; and since the 1930s the Italian national team has always been one of the most competitive worldwide, winning three World Cups (1934, 1938 and 1982), one Olympic Tournament (1936) and one European Championship (1968), always being present at the World Cup finals except for 1930 and 1958. Why Italian National Team Colour is Blue (Azzurro)?

WORLD CUP 2002 IRELAND TEAMS FIXTURES HISTORY
Azurri not so blue ITALY PROFILE: With a side boasting three of the best defenders in the world, Italy’s solid foundations will give a platform from which to build success, writes Paul Doyle After seeing the draw, the bookies immediately installed Italy as second-favourites and it’s true that elimination from a group including Croaita, Ecuador, and Mexico would leave the Azzuri feeling very blue indeed. Everyone knows Italy’s greatest strength: Alessandro Nesta, Fabio Cannavaro, and Paolo Maldinii are three of the best defenders in the world, and Gianluigi Buffon and Francesco Toldo two of the finest goalkeepers. Most of Italy’s midfield is defensive-minded too. Roma’s Damiano Tommassi and Gianluca Zambrotta of Juventus are even-tempered types who tend to stand firm rather than rage forward. The same can be said of Giuseppe Pancaro and even Demetrio Albertini, so the main thrust forwards comes from Francesco Coco, when selected, or, of course, Francesco Totti (above).

EURO 2004 Italy Coach: Giovanni Trapattoni Giovanni Trapattoni is the most successful Italian club coach of the modern era but it is the Euro 2004 finals that will deliver the verdict on his ability as national team boss. Now Trapattoni has a chance to put the memory of the World Cup behind him and prove he can get the very best out of a squad which, with Alessandro Del Piero, Francesco Totti and Christian Vieri, contains some of the best attacking talent in the game. Key Players Name Christian Vieri (Inter Milan) DOB Position Striker Caps Goals With his permanent scowl, frequent refusal to celebrate goals and constant frustration at his team Inter Milan's limitations, Christian Vieri does not appear to be a man who enjoys his club football. It is a different story though when he pulls on the blue shirt for Italy. Born in Bologna but raised in Australia, and the son of a former Serie A striker, Vieri likes the game to be kept simple. Off the field he tires of talk of tactics and barely conceals his contempt for the Italian media. In action he relishes the basics being right an accurate cross to his head or a ball over the top to chase. In 39 appearances for his country Vieri has scored 22 goals, an impressive average at the highest level.

Are these the 125 greatest living soccer players? Pele seems to think so, but he might be alone...
Graham Hughes, 3/9/2004 As part of its centennial celebrations, FIFA, world soccer's governing body, decided to publish a book of photographs of the 100 greatest living players. The task of compiling the list of players was given to the man widely regarded as the greatest of them all, Pele.
In some ways, Pele was the obvious choice. Not only did he have a spectacularly successful playing career, winning three World Cups with Brazil, the first at the age of 17, he also (unlike, say, Diego Maradona) conducted himself with grace and dignity, and was a superb ambassador for the game.
However, his list was greeted mainly with a mixture of derision and, especially in his homeland, cries of outrage.
For a start, he found himself unable to whittle it down to 100 names, and instead came up with 125. Here they are:
