China delivered a harsh football lesson to the minnows Bangladesh as they stormed to a 3-0 victory in the Asiad soccer tournament at Masan Main Stadium on Monday.
It's the second consecutive win for China in their Group C matches.
The fast and skillful China proved to be more than a class above its opponent as it came out merciless and created a string of scoring chances.
Chinese head coach Shen Xiangfu, however, was not satisfied with his players' performance in the first half.
"It's too late for them to find the rhythm of the match, "said Shen, "and too many mistakes in the first half."
Wang Xinxin, the scoring leader of the Chinese first division, opened the scoring in the 34th minute following several well-knit passes among his teammates.
Bangladesh goalkeeper Biplab Bhattacharjee became the hero of his team, making several great saves to blunt the blistering attack of China.

A slow revolution is happening in Indian sport - children are turning to football.
Football is fast gaining a foothold amongst Indians Twelve-year-old Raagav, who has joined a soccer training academy at Gurgaon on the outskirts of the capital Delhi, is one of thousands, maybe millions of young Indians who want to play the game and even prefer it now to cricket. "I like cricket, but football is better," he says. "I want to be a professional and I want to play for Manchester United." Every street corner in every village and town in India still resounds to the shouts of young boys playing India's favourite game, cricket. A bare patch of land, a few bricks piled on top of each other as a wicket, a bat and a ball are all that is needed. But now football is starting to lure some away.

India soccer star joins UK club

Baichung Bhutia turns out in the colours of his new club
One of India's best known footballers has arrived in the UK to join second division Bury on a three-year contract, after he was granted a work permit by the British Government. The BBC's Peter Stevenson: "He's known as the superstar of India" Bhaichung Bhutia made history when he became the first Indian to be signed up by a professional European club. He has a distinguished international record, scoring more than 30 goals for his country. Bury officials say Bhutia could be playing in the club's first team within the month, and are hoping his signing will bring out the local Asian community in support. India's star Originally from the tiny Himalayan state of Sikkim, Bhaichung Bhutia has been playing for East Bengal - one of the few professional clubs in India. He turned professional at 16, after he was spotted by talent scouts and has become one of India's highest paid players. He has been nicknamed the "boyish soccer star from Sikkim" and compared to England's own top scoring teenager, Michael Owen.

NEW DELHI: The Indian team, which has so far employed the 'seven-four'(seven batsmen, four bowlers) team composition formula in One-dayers, will now go for a 'five-five-one'(five batsmen, five bowlers and a wicketkeeper) formula.
"Since the previous combination has not been clicking and India still languishing at a poor No. 8 in ICC rankings, the coach wants to change the existing system just to cope with the new rule,"a BCCI official told TOI on Monday.

Sports Vol. 1 Issue 44-45 Apr 7 - Apr 21 , 1999 Manipur emerges as a major force
Manipur has not only won the 'Fairplay Trophy' in the recently concluded National Football Championship, but also has heralded its arrival in the national football scene. Manipur's performance in the last national championship of this millennium was undoubtedly its best and both the experts of the game and the football lovers of the country are unanimous that the tiny North-Eastern State is all set to become a major force in the Indian football scene in near future.
But unfortunately lack of big match experience prevented the Manipur boys from conquering the ultimate glory. When the team needed only a draw to qualify for the semi finals of the championship, the Manipur boys played an open game and lost to the eventual winner, Bengal.
The score line, 4-1 in favour of Bengal may give an impression that Manipur was no match for the big boys of Indian football, but those present on the occasion have other stories to tell. According to them with a more organised defense, Manipur could well upset the applecart of Bengal quite easily.
It was Manipur's misfortune that they conceded a goal against the run of the play in the 30th minute of the match. Bengal skipper Baichung Bhutia scored the goal taking advantage of a misunderstanding between Manipur's captain Jiten Singh and custodian Noren Singh.

A cup to celebrate
SUHRID SANKAR CHATTOPADHYAY East Bengal's historic victory in the Asean Cup gives a much-needed fillip to Indian football. IN 1911, the Mohun Bagan Athletic Club wrote its name in the annals of Indian football history, when its bare-footed players defeated the mighty British East York regiment 2-1 in the Indian Football Association (IFA) Challenge Shield final at Eden Gardens in Calcutta (now Kolkata). It was the first victory for an Indian football team against a British one and its significance transcended the football field. Football was not merely a sport anymore but was hailed as a historic symbol of resistance against the British imperialists. DITA ALANGKARA/AP

East Bengal scripted history on Saturday by becoming the first Indian club to win any Asian level football tournament by demolishing Thailand's BEC Terro Sasana 3-1 in the final of the LG ASEAN Cup in Jakarta. The victory was even sweeter because BEC Terro is the champion club of Asia and had defeated East Bengal in the first league match of the tournament 1-0. The Geloran Senayan stadium once again turned out to be a lucky venue for Indian soccer, where India had won the Jakarta Asian Games gold medal in Nigerian Mike Okoro opened the scoring for East Bengal in the 30th minute, while Baichung Bhutia increased the tally in the 52nd minute before Alvito D'Cunha completed the rout in the 78th minute.

Get ready to bend it like Baichung Bhutia Manchester United fans, step aside! India’s soccer fanatics can now pin hopes and look up to the country’s very own club from the North East — United Sikkim. The club is the brainchild of Baichung Bhutia, the pin-up boy of Indian soccer, who is on the lookout for fresh and new talent from his native state of Sikkim. The club plans to groom 20 young boys from the region as national-level players. "I want to have a well-organised club in Sikkim, and not only in Sikkim but in whole of North East as well. So we have started a membership system here. We want to have a lot of people involved in the club. The idea is to provide a platform and help the youngsters move in the right direction," said Bhutia. Bhutia has also managed to rope in a sponsor for the forthcoming season. Sleepwell Mattresses will support the Gangtok-based side.
