Stars on Ice Skaters
Of course, one of the most essential parts of any organization like this are the skaters themselves. They are the centerpiece of the tour, and keep the audience coming. The following are the current (2004-2005) skaters in the US and Canadian tours. For past skaters, click here Tina Tyan . Please do not use without permission. Todd Eldredge : The "most decorated" male skater of his time, Todd Eldredge's extensive career has included six US National titles, the 1996 World title, and five other World medals (3 silver, 2 bronze). He has won US national titles at the novice, junior, and senior levels. Like Kurt Browning, he was a three-time Olympian but never medaled. His highest placement was 4th at the 1998 Olympic Games in Nagano. Todd turned pro directly after the 2002 Olympic Games, and joined the Stars on Ice tour. His first performance was on Feb. 26, 2002. Todd has signed to a six-year contract with Stars on Ice, so SOI fans will get to know him very well over the next few years. One interesting thing to note is that Todd is a clockwise spinner and jumper.

History of The Washington Figure Skating Club
By Ed Picken
Excerpted from The Blade
The Past is Prologue
Sixty years ago, the Washington Figure Skating Club became a full-fledged member of the United States Figures Skating Association, following a year as a probationary organization. The organizer, and first president, was Dr. Christopher Meyer. Skating sessions were held in the Riverside Stadium, located on a site near where the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts now stands. It was an outdoor, artificial surface. The refrigeration, interestingly enough, came from the Christian Heirich Brewery located just across the street, now a maze of roads.
A year later (1939), the rink was enclosed and the club staged its first carnival. Scrapbooks reveal that approximately 2,000 people attended it. After its enclosure, Riverside Stadium became the Washington D.C. stop for the Ice Follies, one of the major traveling ice extravaganzas. Little did we know at that time, that one of its headliners, Osborne Colson, Champion of Canada, would exert his considerable influence on the Club when he joined the coaching staff in 1946.
That same year, the Chevy Chase Ice Palace was constructed on Connecticut Avenue. The ice surface (somewhat smaller in size than the surfaces to which we are now accustomed) was located on the second floor along side a furrier. The building also contained two floors for bowling.

I have become totally confused about the time zones for the specific times listed so be sure to check your local listings! 8) Many competitions will also be broadcast. Once the event takes place, it becomes a show and the listing will be moved to the upcoming show page Plain text dates are competition dates, emphasized dates are air dates. Plain text competitions I know nothing about, the rest are pro amateur , and pro-am competitions.

Seeded skaters are emphasized . Since only the two declared/assigned competition result points count, and I only know the assigned competitions for the top seeded competitors, I suffer from some confusion over the point tally for the unseeded competitors who have competed in more than 2 events. These are emphasized in the Championship Series participants list.

Weiss draws undesirable first slot Posted: Sunday February 10, 2002 6:33 PM
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) While the other two Americans drew acceptable spots for Tuesday night's Olympic figure skating short program, Michael Weiss was stuck with the undesirable first position. Tim Goebel wound up 20th and Todd Eldredge had perhaps the best fortune in Sunday's blind draw, getting No. 25 out of 29. World champion Evgeny Plushenko of Russia drew 18th, four spots after his main challenger, three-time world champion Alexei Yagudin. The third Russian, Alexander Abt, will go just before Eldredge. Elvis Stojko of Canada, who won the silver medal at the last two Olympics, will be the final skater in the short program, worth one-third of the total score. "The first place is not the greatest to be in, but I have skated first and won," Weiss said. "I skated first at [the 1993] nationals in juniors and won both the short and long programs." Weiss was comforted by the fact Ilia Kulik, the 1998 Olympic champion, won the short program in the 1996 worlds after skating in the second slot. But he also knows that Brian Boitano bombed in the short program at Lillehammer in 1994 as the opening skater. "It happens," Weiss added. "The good thing is the marks will be similar, not all up and down."

    Keri Lotion Figure Skating Classic
    Oct 3-4, 1998
Silver Blade Tours Inc. was proud to begin our first tour of the season at the "Keri Lotion Figure Skating Classic," formerly named the Nice N' Easy Figure Skating Classic in Daytona Beach, Florida. Santioned by the United States Figure Skating association (USFSA) and the International Skating Union (ISU), skaters represented the United States, France, Ukraine and Russia, from new and upcoming skaters to World and Olympic Champions. Daytona Beach can now claim another "s" word to sun, sand, and now skating as this prestigious event returned to sunny Florida a second year in a row. How nice to have this event so close to home in DeLand, Florida where Silver Blade Tours, Inc. is based.
The Adam's Mark, Daytona Beach Resort , located directly on the beach and across from the Ocean Center, was our place in the sun this first weekend in October. With oceanfront rooms, we had spectacular views of the sun rising over the ocean and a beautiful full moon shining its light over the sea at night. Swimming, shopping and visiting the local sights was on the agenda along with our nights of spectacular skating.
This event featured some of the best ladies and men's skaters from around the world. Michelle Kwan, 1998 U.S., Worlds, Goodwill Games Champion and Olympic Silver Medalist headlined the ladies along with fellow Americans Nicole Bobeck, 1995 U.S. Champion, National World and Olympic competitor and Angela Nikodinov, upcoming National competitor. Russian Maria Butyrskaya, 1998 European Champion, World and Olympic competitor, France's Surya Bonaly five time European Champion, World and Olympic competitor, and 1988 Olympic Silver Medalist Elizabeth Manley from Canada, completed the roster of lady skaters.

Many people are e-mailing me about the version of "Reflection" that Michelle skates to. It is not the version that is on the soundtrack, or in the movie. Someone that knows Lea Salonga, the singer of "Reflection", told me that Disney decided to cut it from the film (don't know why.) In fact, Lea didn't even have a copy of it until Disney sent her one about a month ago. However, when she promotes the film and has to sing the song live, she sings the long version. Her friend did not think it would be available as a single. The whole point of the special was to promote the movie, Mulan . If you would like, you can check out my review of the movie (which turned out to be my favorite summer movie!) Here are the final ratings for the Friday airing of "Reflections on Ice." The ratings were a 4.2 and a 9 share. So, approximately 6.7 million views watched the show. It was ranked 82 out of 116 shows, and was tied with Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. On the CBC airing of "Reflections on Ice", they showed something that the ABC airing did not. Here's what Valerie said about it

Also, check out pictures of the program screen shots from the special , and hear the full song in the Michelle's Program Information section of my page. By Bonnie Michelle could not have been more perfect. Them again, that's no surprise. Michelle was absolutely great. She fits the character of Mulan so perfectly. I'm really glad Disney picked her to do this special. Michelle added even more beauty to the wonderful story. I hope she does more specials. She is the BEST! A True Champion with much more than just A Heart of Gold...... By Carol I failed to catch the whole Disney special Tuesday night because I had class from 6:00pm to 8:00pm that evening. Still I managed to watch the second half of the program. My comment? Michelle is absolutely gorgeous! As always, every move she made on the ice is perfect. It's always such an agreeable experience to enjoy her skating as she enjoys herself at the same time. And I love those eyes, full of strength and emotions. Michelle is no doubt No. 1!!!
I'm going to the movie for sure, if not Disneyland!
