For others, it takes many years of unrelenting toil before the podium is ever reached. For Lithuanian ice dancers Margarita (Rita) Drobiazko and Povilas Vanagas, it has often looked like the podium was forever out of reach, but that hasn't prevented the couple from continuing their quest. "Rita works so much. She is a fanatic. She is unstoppable, and she would enjoy spending the whole night at the rink," noted Povilas, known for being an incredibly hard worker himself. When the couple earned the bronze medals at both the 2000 European Championships in Vienna and the World Championships in France, they made history as the first skaters from their country to ever win a medal in an international championship. The dancers dedicated the medal to their coach, Elena Tchaikovskaia: "She made us work to our limits and pushed us to the podium." The dancers have competed in three Olympics, finishing eighth in 1998 in Nagano, Japan and eight World Championships, starting in 13th place in 1992. They have also participated in dozens of senior internationals, winning their first Grand Prix event at Skate Canada in 1999.
