Marina Zueva
Marina Zueva was an ice dancer who competed for the Soviet Union with Andrei Vitman in the late 1970's. Shortly thereafter, she retired from competitive skating to become a choreographer. Creating a routine for Gordeeva and Grinkov was her "final project" to receive a choreography degree at the National Theatre Institute in 1982. Through the 1980's, Zueva continued to be the principle choreographer for G&G. In 1990, the trio went their separate ways when Gordeeva and Grinkov turned professional and Marina took a job in Canada. Marina now coaches at the Minto Skating Club in Ottawa, Ontario with her husband, Aleksei Tchetveroukhine. Her most promising student is her son, Fedor Andreev. She has also worked with Canadian pair Kristy and Kris Wirtz and many other top eligible Canadian skaters. In addition to choreographing Katia's professional routines, she has also worked with other professional skaters including Caryn Kadavy, and pair Radka Kovarikova and Rene Novotny. Ladies Practice
Everyone was asked to leave the building since the doors would quickly be opened for people who had tickets for the evening events. It was a chance for us to grab something quick to eat and just relax before the evening events started.
I had met up with a few of my "online buddies/friends" as I like to call them and dish about what else - figure skating. Hiya goes out to Karyn (who lucked out on some GREAT seats), Michelle (I'll try not to get mustard all over me next time *hehe*, Kim (who also lucked out on some great seats)
Figure Skating Competitions not only bring out many figure skating FANS but also many figure skaters themselves. Yes many were in attendance tonight. Let me see who I saw, Josee Chouinard and husband Jean-Michele, Luc Bradet (who apparently is still coaching with Marie-Claude) AND Victor Kraatz (yes I did happen to see Victor Kraatz again, this time watching the Men's Short programs - trust me he was hiding but I found him. I have good eyes *hehe*)
Ice-Dancing Compulsory Dance
Pairs Short Program
Men's Short Program
My predictions for the men - I am rooting for Todd. With a great skate like tonight, he could do just about anything on Sat. I'd say watch out Yags. Could we possibly have a Canadian on the podium here at Skate Canada - I'd say YES. Possibly Ben Ferreira.

ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating: Skate America, Day Three The Grand Prix of Figure Skating Skate America in Colorado Springs, Colorado (USA) continued Saturday with the Free Dance, the Men's and Ladies' Free Skating. Ice Dancing, Free Dance Skating to Jewish Folk Music, Chait/Sakhnovski showed passion and speed. They received marks ranging from 5.3 to 5.6 for technical merit and from 5.5 to 5.7 for presentation and moved up one spot after the Compulsory and Original Dances. "We felt very good", Chait said. "I think we made the right choice", she continued with reference to their change of coaches earlier this year. "We improved our edge quality. It will get better, right now we're very happy with the progress we've made." The Lithuanians presented a passionate Free Dance set to the song "Quelques Cris" by Johnny Halliday that contained innovative lifts and intricate footwork. Their marks went up to 5.5 for technical merit and up to 5.7 for presentation, but they dropped to third. "We are very happy with the way we've skated", Vanagas commented. "Today was our day, not the compulsory, not the OD, but today, it was." While all Judges had Bourne/Kraatz first, they were divided on the following couples. The Israelis received four second place ordinals and three third place ordinals, while the Lithuanians had three second places, three third places and one fourth.

    Skating Stars Turned Coaching Czars
Russians Find Success in the United States Since the breakup of the Soviet Union, over 200 of Russia's top figure skating coaches have relocated to other countries as a means to stay in the sport and earn enough income to survive. Some of the skating establishment bigtime coaches - Natalia Dubova, Tatiana Tarasova and Natalia Linichuk, to name just a few - found immense success training Olympic skaters on U.S. soil. Today a new generation of top Russian skaters have turned their talents to coaching and creating training schools in the country they now call home - America. Evgeny Platov: Alongside a Legend "In 1991 our country, the Soviet Union, collapsed. We didn't even have a flag in the Albertville Olympics," recalled twotime Olympic ice dance gold medalist Evgeny Platov. "It was three more years before I left, but that was hard times for my country, and the worst of times for my sport. Nobody cared about figure skating, and who could blame them, we had a nationwide depression."
