Sasha Cohen's former coach, Tatiana Tarasova, who use to coach Yagudin is not well. From USFSA website "According to Tarasova, "Lately I have not been feeling well. The amount of travel to Sasha’s international competitions has adversely affected my health. Physically, I need to have a less rigorous schedule. I will be going back to Russia to take care of myself. I wish Sasha all the best in the future.""

Pairs Aljona Savchenko and Stanislav Morozov (UKR) took on a thrilling duel contending for first place against Julia Shapiro and Alexey Sokolov (RUS). After the Short Program, the Russians occupied the first position, but in the Free Program, they made several mistakes. Sokolov touched down on the ice on the double axel, positioning the Russians in second. The Ukrainian Pair skated a very clean program, which brought them the victory in the Free Program as well as the gold medal. Their program contained very impressive side by side triple toe, double axel-double toe, triple throw toeloop and many other difficult elements. The other Russian pair Victoria Shliakova and Grigory Petrovsky, who were in third place after the Short Program, kept this position after the Free Program. The couple skated a clean double throw salchow, a side by side triple salchow and a double axle-double toeloop. Ladies Svetlana Bukareva (RUS) skated a very clean Short Program and won the first part of the competition. Unable to hold the pressure in the Free Program the Russian touched down on the ice while performing the triple flip, triple toe and double axel, placing her in third. Deanna Stalleto (USA), third after the Short Program, was able to take this advantage. Stalleto skated a strong Free Program, as she landed clean jumps including a triple lutz-double toe, a triple flip, a double axel-double axel, a triple toe-double toe, a triple lutz and a triple salchow, which won her the gold. Her teammate, Jennifer Kirk, who also accomplished an impressive Free Program, took second place. Kirk placed three high triples and had a very good triple toe-double toe, but missed the double axel in the combination with the triple salchow.

By Lesley Herridge Afternoon Practice My day started when I arrived at the stadium for practice. The younger skaters were doing a run-through of the opening and closing numbers with the Elites blocking out their sections of the group numbers. The core group consisted of skaters in the Newfoundland region who are our top pre-novice skaters and our Senior A team skaters. They came together from all over the Eastern Region and Labrador in two days to learn the choreography for 3 numbers. After several run-throughs, including one where Kurt nearly fell on some heel-toe work because he was livening it up a little, it was time for individual practices of the elite skaters and to find the correct lighting for each number. I have no idea, by the way, if Kurt really did trip or was acting. I was able to see many of the performances that would be in the show later that night. For Anabelle and Pratice they worked on blocking with no lifts, throws or twists. The choreography speaks for itself and the routine looked to be fabulous. Belbin and Agosto and Bourne and Kraatz both worked on sections of their routines. It was my first glimpse of Tanith and Ben's competitive programs for the season as they skated their Original and Free Dances. Kurt did a run-through of How Do You Keep the Music Playing?
