Turco gagnait $850,000 l’an dernier.

Tired of the Iraq War? Tired of all the retired generals and television commentators doing a play-by-play analysis of the war? Well, relief is at hand. A new war is upon us, the war for Lord Stanley's Cup. There is no question on why this war is being fought and when it will end. The only thing unknown is who will carry the Stanley Cup around the ice in victory...
Before we look at what did happen in the NHL and what will happen, let's take a look at what didn't happen...
The big spending New York Rangers didn't make the playoffs. What team could with their number one goaltender, their best defenseman and top goal scorer out for most of the year? Okay, the answer is the St. Louis Blues who with similar problems managed a respectable 99 points and a fifth spot in the Western Conference...
Last year's Eastern Conference champions the Carolina Hurricanes didn't make the playoffs. That should come as no surprise as the Eastern champ almost always fails to make the playoffs after playing in the previous season's cup final. Just an odd fact...
The much-touted San Jose Sharks also failed to make the playoffs. This also should come as no surprise. When are GMs going to realize that letting players holdout through the season hurts the whole team? Had they signed the players before the season started, they might have made the playoffs and made the money from the playoffs to pay the salary increases. Instead they are somewhere between rebuilding and demolition...

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
The National Hockey League All-Star Game was part of the 1999-2000 NHL season , and took place in Toronto 's Air Canada Centre on February 6 The all-star week festivities saw the Canadian Hockey League Top Prospects Game played on February 2 , and an exhibition game between the Canadian and American women's national teams on February 3 . The Heroes of Hockey game and the Skills Competition were held on February 5 . It is to note that the opening face-off for the Heroes of Hockey game were Ted Lindsay and Fleming Mackell , two players who played in the 1st National Hockey League All-Star Game The week also was a good sendoff for Wayne Gretzky , who had retired the previous season. His #99 was raised to the rafters, despite him never playing for the hometown Toronto Maple Leafs , as a show of his number's league-wide retirement. Gretzky also made it clear that he would not partake in any oldtimer or Heroes of Hockey game unless it was held in Edmonton , a statement that was realized with the Heritage Classic three years later.

Nice work! I've been complaining about how San Jose won't sign any players until the season is underway (see below). I just wanted to compliment Anaheim for signing number one draft pick Joffrey Lupul for three years . He's looking good in the WHL, so why wouldn't Disney's Ducks get the contract stuff out of the way?
Nice job, Uncle Walt. Posted by Steven Ovadia on Friday, November 15, 2002, 12:00 AM Unlucky 7s The Islanders can't buy a break. Or actually, maybe they're getting too many breaks. Or wait. They're not really breaks. They're more sprains. Or a sprain, to be more precise.
Michael Peca, whose absense while recuperating from a torn ACL has proved that he's really the heart of the Isles, hurt his other knee on his first day back
Peca, a member of the Islanders powerful "Lucky 7s" second line, wasn't supposed to return to the ice until December, but he was feeling better and his team is drowning. So what started out as something motivational has probably got the team ready to fall on their blades and call it a season.

Believe we gave up a 7th round pick, could be wrong it could have been for future considerations. Nomad Nov 5 2004, 07:51 AM After the 2002-2003 season, the Caps traded a 7th Round pick for Yushkevich since they were intending to slash payroll rather than add to it, while the Flyers were looking to add. Exploiting a loophole, the Caps would have received a compensatory draft pick in the following draft (this year) had another team signed Yushkevich in free agency. As an escape clause to the deal, the Caps' pick would be returned to them should Yushkevich not be signed in that off-season. So the Caps got back their 7th when Yushkevich went to Russia to play again. His "rights" don't belong to anyone, but the Caps were the last team to own his contract. Posted: Fri 08 Nov, 2002 Post subject: Yushkevich going to be traded? I just heard today that I few teams are looking into trading for Dmitry Yushkevich. Last I heard the Leafs, Rangers and red wings were looking into the defenseman who is currently residing in florida. Frankly I hope Toronto gets him. He has been with toronto since 95, and was traded in the off season for svehla. He is loved in Toronto and he has said many times that he loves playing here so I really hope he returns. His contract also expires at the end of the season, so whoever gets him has a good chance of resigning him for a longer period of time at the end of the season. Russia regroups after semi-finals loss, beats Belarus 7-2 for bronze Was there anything remarkable about the actual bronze medal game in which Russia beat Belarus 7-2? No, it was pretty much what everyone expected. The atmosphere in the E Center was bleary and subdued from the post-Friday semi-finals "hangover." ce photo:DAVE SANDFORD Pavel Bure scores on Shabanov
But this game was special for a pair of Igors on Team Russia.
Defenseman Igor Kravchuk became the second-ranking Olympic hockey medal winner of all time with the victory. Summoned as a late replacement for the injured Dmitri Yushkevich, the 35-year-old NHL and Soviet League veteran has now captured two golds (1988, 1992), a silver (1998) and a bronze (2002).
Only the great Vladislav Tretiak outranks Kravchuk, with three golds and a bronze. Kravchuk's haul has more of a golden hue than the only other player to collect four Olympic hockey medals: Jiri Holik of Czechoslovakia. Holik won two silvers and two bronzes in the 1960's and 1970's.
"If you look at a hockey career, most of the time you can play ten years, and I think I've been such a lucky person to play in four Olympics," said Kravchuk. "Believe me, I haven't been trying to keep score of how many medals I've gotten. I just wanted to play and represent my country. It's been an honor for me that Mr. Fetisov invited me at the last minute. I wish that every other hockey player could have such a career."

    DAY 3RD
The US Salt Lake City has become the venue of the 19th Olympic Winter Games. The Voice of Russia Radio company covers daily the key events at the Games. Forecasts often do not come true, especially at Olympiads; there favorites often fail to win awards whereas earlier unknown athletes became celebrities on a spur of the moment. The current Olympic Games are not an exception. The first three days have brought several sensations.20-year-old Swiss ski-jumper Simonn Amman was a victor in the 90-meter ski jump event. That was a sensation of the Olympiad's second day. The recognized favorites-German Sven Hannawald and Polish Adam Malysz - have won "silver" and "bronze". The world record has been beaten twice in the men's 5,000 meters skate race. First this was done by US athlete Derek Parra, who is also the world's two-tines champion in roller-skating. In a while, his new world record was also beaten by Dutchman Jochem Uytdehaage. The time of the Dutchman appears fantastic6 minutes and 15 seconds. He is the new Olympic Champion. Yet another sensation came in the women's 3,000 metres skate race. The recognised favourite German Anni Freezinger was not among prize winners. The gold medal went to her compatriot Claudia Pechstein who improved the world record, which also belonged to her. "Silver" went to Norwegian Renata Groenewold. Canadian Cindy Klassen has won the bronze medal, she was not among favourites.
