Hurricanes Sign Whitney To Two-Year Deal
POSTED: 9:46 pm CDT August 7, 2005 Raleigh, NC Hurricanes sign Whitney to two-year deal The Carolina Hurricanes have come to terms on a two-year contract with left wing Ray Whitney. The 33-year-old Whitney played with the Detroit Red Wings during the 2003-04 season, tallying 14 goals and 29 assists. A two-time All-Star, Whitney has 205 goals and 330 assists during his NHL career. He has topped 60 points in five of his last seven seasons and has also played for San Jose, Edmonton, Florida and Columbus. "I am very excited with the addition of Ray, who is a skilled forward who will add more speed and offense to our team," said Hurricanes president and general manager Jim Rutherford.

Hurricanes sign Whitney to two-year deal

RALEIGH, N.C.
Ray Whitney signed a two-year contract with Carolina, giving the Hurricanes a two-time All-Star who has topped 60 points in five of his last seven seasons. The 33-year-old left wing is joining his sixth NHL team. He has scored more than 20 goals in a season five times, setting a career high with 33 in 1997-98 with Edmonton and Florida. He was chosen for the All-Star game in 2000 and 2003. "I am very excited with the addition of Ray, who is a skilled forward who will add more speed and offense to our team," general manager Jim Rutherford said of the deal announced Saturday night.
