Jerseys What follows is a sampling from my Seattle hockey game used jersey collection. Prior to 1996 the only way to get a game worn TBirds jersey was to win one in the raffles which took place at every home game. This kind of sucked, as you didn't get to choose the player and the odds weren't all that good. Starting in 1996 the team offered jerseys for sale to fans - they were all the same price, and you got to pick the player and whether you wanted a home, road or alternate jersey. When you order a jersey, the team obtains a replacement for the player. When the replacement arrives, you get the one that he wore up to that point. Beginning in 1999, the team began doing special promotions involving unique jerseys (such as the 2002 President's Day jerseys above) which would only be worn in one game, then auctioned off to the fans. The money raised goes to the player's scholarship fund. There have been five of these one-game-only jerseys through 2002, photos of which can be found below. Interest is very high in these jerseys, and generally the bidding ranges from $500 to $1,200 per jersey depending on the player. The "70's Night" mesh jerseys were not nearly as popular as the others, and these original sold in the $250-$450 range at the time of the auction. In 2001 the team began experimenting with holiday themed warm up jerseys. It was a first come, first served basis, with the first 25 fans to put up $150 receiving a used warm up jersey drawn at random. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Winter jerseys were done for 2001-02.

Wells to leave hockey coaching staff
May 5, 1999 KALAMAZOO Chris Wells, assistant hockey coach at Western Michigan University, is leaving the Bronco staff to accept a similar position at his alma mater, St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y. The announcement was made today by head coach Jim Culhane. "We wish Chris the best of luck at St. Lawrence and are grateful for the contributions he made to the Bronco program. Chris brought a unique prospective to our staff and helped implement some innovative ideas," says Culhane, who will search for a replacement immediately. Wells spent the 1998-99 season at WMU, working with Bronco forwards and assisting recruiting efforts. He was elevated to top assistant after Culhane accepted the head position in March. "I certainly loved the experience of being in a new league (Central Collegiate Hockey Association)," says the 30-year-old Wells. "Kate (wife) and I have enjoyed our time in Kalamazoo and we're looking forward to the new experiences ahead. Much of what I learned here will be utilized in the future." Prior to WMU, Wells served four seasons as the top assistant at Colgate, helping the Red Raiders to four consecutive appearances in the Eastern College Athletic Conference playoffs.

Game Recap: Amur - Severstal
NOV.20 It's tough to win hockey games when five of your top 6 forwards are out. Maxim Spiridonov, Alexei Badyukov, Vadim Pokotilo, Vladimir Averkin and Anatoly Ustyugov were all out with injuries, as Amur conceded its fifth straight loss (third in a row at home) against Severstal, 3-4, this afternoon. Sidelined players combined for 44% of Amur's goals for the season. However led by experienced Sergei Krivokrasov Khabarovsk still managed to slide three pucks behind former Hab Martin Brochu. Brochu managed 22 saves in his RSL debut, but despite winning Canadian goalie put together rather a shaky performance. Another former NHLer Chris Wells made his debut for Khabarovsk. Wells begun the game centering Amur's top line along side Dmitry Tarasov and Krivokrasov. However giant Wells was as impressive, as he ever got throughout his NHL career. Toronto Maple Leafs' prospect Alexander Shinkar got the game winner three minutes into the final period. Shinkar stepped in the slot from the side of the net and poked the disk past Alex Westlund for his third goal of the season. Alexander Kalyuzhny, Yuri Trubachev and Vasily Turkovsky also scored for Cherepovets.
