ESPN.com's 'The Show': INCH Overtime As hard as we try, it's virtually impossible to address every question we receive during our weekly half-hour of college hockey chat on ESPN.com's 'The Show'. So we thought, why not take the best submissions that didn't get answered and post responses on INCH?
The result is INCH Overtime. When warranted, we'll tackle everything that we didn't quite get to during 'The Show.' We see it as a win-win: your question gets answered, and we get talk more hockey.
Below you'll find what we had left in the mailbag after we wrapped our Feb. 17 chat. Just wanted to say that I really won't miss the NHL ... at least not until mid-April. I love the college game and appreciate all you guys do to cover it. Derek (Natick, Mass.)

Wolfpack unable to solve Dedham goalie
March 8, 2005 Christina Sweeney stands only 5 feet 4 inches, and is even shorter when she crouches in her ready position for faceoffs. She made last night's best save lying flat on her stomach. ADVERTISEMENT But to Boston Latin, she must have looked like a giant. Sweeney made 23 saves, many on prime scoring chances, to lead Dedham to a 3-1 win over Boston Latin in a Division 1 quarterfinal at the Ryan Arena in Watertown. Sweeney's first showstopper came at 7:30 in the first, when she made the initial save on a Boston Latin shot, and then bent her knee, while lying on her stomach, to kick the next shot away. "You like that one, huh?" said Dedham coach Don Parr. "She stands on her head." "She makes saves like that all the time," said co-coach Joe Huff. "You can always count on her. When she says it's not going to go in, it's not going to go in." The move surprised Sweeney, too. "I didn't even know my leg went up, honestly," said Sweeney. "I wasn't planning on doing that, it just happened." Sweeney's teammates made sure her efforts paid off with a goal in each period. Kara Kelley struck first with a shot from the point, followed by a second-period breakaway goal by Jesse D'lessandro, and a Jacqueline Collins goal from the slot in the third.

March 25, 2004 Bruins Score a Big Assist for ALS Research
Boston Bruins legends played a charity hockey game against the Fran Delaney ALS Stars and raised more than $31,000.00 for ALS research. The Bruins Alumni included hockey legends Brad Park, Ken Hodge, Lyndon Byers, Bob Sweeney, Don Marcotte and current TV game broadcaster Andy Brickley. Rene Rancourt started the special event with his familiar rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. The Fran Delaney ALS Stars were led by Team Captain and Event Organizer Joe Valente. “This is a fun hockey game for a great cause and, for many of us, it’s a sports fantasy playing against these great hockey players,” said Joe. This is the second year Joe has planned and managed this event. In two years, these charity hockey games have raised more than $75,000.00. Bob Martel has worked closely with Joe in organizing the event. “I’m the goalie for the ALS Stars team. Needless to say, I get a chance to see a lot of shots from these great Bruins hockey players. It’s a thrill to be on the same ice with the Bruins players we grew up with,” said Bob.

Sweeney, who was in the starting lineup, is just the fourth player in club history to reach the mark with all of his games in a Boston uniform. Ray Bourque (1,518), John Bucyk (1,436) and Wayne Cashman (1,027) are the others.
"I'd like to congratulate you on your 1,000th game,'' Bourque said in a video message. "You are the guy that played the most games with me. ... Keep on trucking.''
Bucyk and Cashman presented Sweeney with a solid sliver stick from the organization. Bruins captain Joe Thornton gave him a watch from his teammates.
Sweeney, 36, is the 180th NHL player to reach the mark. He didn't speak during the ceremony, choosing only to wave to the crowd.
Drafted in 1984 after playing at Harvard, Sweeney started his career with Boston on Oct. 6, 1988. He is only the 35th NHL player to reach 1,000 games all with one team.

The Pre-War Years
In , at the convincing of Boston grocery magnate Charles Adams , the NHL decided to expand into the United States . As a long-time hockey hotbed, Boston was a natural for the NHL's first genuine expansion team. Adams and his family would own the team for most of the next fifty years, and his club, which he named the Bruins, finished last in the league in their first season but garnered overwhelming fan support. The color scheme of brown and gold (in later years changing to black and gold) came from Adams' grocery chain.

http://www.ahcahockey.com/news/9900/0719sas.html
News and Notes Amateurism Update: Changes Continue Following the AHCA Convention in May, the College Ice Hockey Commissioners Association agreed to pool resources and take out a $5,400 centerspread ad in the Draft Issue of The Hockey News, to explain where the NCAA stood on deregulating amateurism. Before the printing bill was even paid, the commissioners learned that the committee studying the issue had recommended changes that made much of what appeared in The Hockey News inaccurate. In mid-June, the commissioners learned that the latest of many re-writes being advanced to the Management Council will recommend that for every year of Major Junior hockey a PSA plays, he will lose a year of eligibility in college. And this, for the first time since the issue was aired publically, includes Major Junior participation before high school graduation. Regardless of whether this is good or bad, it is frustrating to those in the hockey community who have taken great pains to explain this situation to those thousands of members of the hockey community who are somewhat distant from the decision-makers. Where this latest change came from is somewhat unknown. Advice to all concerned: don't make any plans until the final version is voted on, discussed, and voted on again (spring/summer 2001).
