OUR SO-CALLED YOUTH MOVEMENT Sunday - September 30, 2001 Your farm hand made her first trip to MSG last weekend. As if seeing the Rangers live wasnt enough, she got to do so in the company of such famous 407 residents as Gabe (Fact or Fiction) and Bird, not to mention a collection of those who are less well-known to the outside world (trust me, you are better off that way). I was shocked to see that MSG is actually smaller inside than the Hartford Civic Center, although after last nights explosions, we arent sure WHAT exactly the HCC looks like now. Some underground transformers blew up, setting fire to enough oil to fill the city with black, PCB-laden smoke. Opening night in Hartford is in two weeks, should be interesting to see if they hand out face masks as door prizes. It was fun to see some big names play hockey, although most of the really big names were in the box above our heads, from which they would wave down at us from time to time (thanks, PJ!). Not as much fun as in Hartford, where they actually sit in the stands, but I can imagine the chaos if Messier, Fleury, and Lindros strolled in down at our level. And the Rangers won, which I am told is somewhat rare. I enjoyed seeing players such as Richter, Dvorak, and Nedved show their stuff, as well as kids like Richard Scott and Johan Holmqvist (this was before Holmqvist won a ticket to Hartford in the Devils disaster later that week). And, overall, I was only moderately traumatized by meeting the other members of 407 in person. My therapist says with a couple more months of intensive work I should be entirely healed. | |
