COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Hockey today announced that 39 players, representing 21 different National Hockey League teams, have been invited to the 2005 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Orientation Camp, to be held Sept. 5-8 in Colorado Springs, Colo. "The orientation camp will be a terrific opportunity for our staff to come together with the candidates for our Olympic Team to assess the potential make-up of our squad," said Don Waddell (Duluth, Ga.), general manager of the 2006 Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team in making the announcement. "It will not be a tryout camp as the evaluation process will continue throughout the first part of the NHL season, however, it will be an important first step in the total process." The camp is designed to assist in the preparation of the 2006 United States Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team that will compete at the XX Olympic Winter Games to be held Feb. 10-26 in Torino, Italy, and will consist of both on- and off-ice components.

30 Former Collegians Invited to U.S. Olympic Camp The 2006 U.S. Olympic Team that will compete in Torino, Italy, in February is assured of having a strong college hockey presence. Thirty of the 39 players invited to September's U.S. Olympic Orientation Camp, which USA Hockey announced today, played college hockey. Don Waddell, the former Northern Michigan star who is general manager of the U.S. team, made the announcement. The camp will be held Sept. 5-8 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Former Olympians such as Bill Guerin, Keith Tkachuk, Doug Weight, Chris Drury, Aaron Miller, Brian Rafalski and Brian Rolston headline what is largely a young group, featuring two players who were in college as recently as 2003-04 (Zach Parise and Ryan Suter). The 30 players represent 19 schools, with Boston University, St. Cloud State and Wisconsin leading the way with three representatives apiece. Boston College, Lake Superior State, Michigan State, Minnesota and North Dakota each have two former players invited. "The orientation camp will be a terrific opportunity for our staff to come together with the candidates for our Olympic Team to assess the potential make-up of our squad," Waddell said. "It will not be a tryout camp as the evaluation process will continue throughout the first part of the NHL season, however, it will be an important first step in the total process."

York, Deadmarsh among U.S. additions
Associated Press
After adding six players to complete the U.S. Olympic roster Saturday, coach Herb Brooks called the process "painful." The Kings' Aaron Miller said he was 'ecstatic' about being named to the U.S. Olympic team. "All coaches can tell you nobody likes to do this sort of thing," he said. "So we took our time." On the last possible day to hand in rosters, Brooks and his staff chose forwards Mike York of the New York Rangers Adam Deadmarsh of Los Angeles, Brian Rolston of Boston and defensemen Phil Housley of Chicago, Aaron Miller of Los Angeles and Tom Poti of Edmonton. "We feel we have an even mix of physicalness, speed and finesse players, and enough to play both games if necessary," Brooks said. General manager Craig Patrick called it a "combination of flat-out All Stars and a very complementary group." Poti broke his finger Friday night, but Brooks and Patrick said they aren't concerned.
