Last update: 6/10/2001 21:00 Past beeHive Pool Winners It's official. Bob Hicks claims the Rogue Puck (TM) . Check the Past beeHive Pool Winners Wall of Fame Here's some humble words from the winner: As the fans counted down the seconds in Saturday night's game, I counted with them. When the buzzer went, I jumped up and down, raised my arms, and shouted "I won the Rogue Puck". My kids, watching me with raised eyebrows, were wondering about this Rogue Puck. A half hour later they pleaded to go to bed, but I needed to make sure they understood the sweat and tears that it sometimes takes to get something you really want. Ray Bourque and I shared a feeling of accomplishment as he skated around with the Cup. For years, I have let the Rogue Puck slip through my hands. Now it is mine to cherish and display proudly. There are those that come close, but never get to experience winning the Rogue Puck. I will be waiting for Steve Breen to knock on my office door to see if he too can raise and kiss the puck. Next year will be an even greater hockey season. Canada wins Gold, Leafs with the Stanley Cup, and I win another Rogue puck. Yes, I have high expectations. Tim Farrell, on the other hand, just hopes for the Bruins to make the playoffs.

Last update: 6/18/98 10:06 It's official - Bryan Smale takes home the Rogue Puck (TM) as an indication of total hockey pool supremacy. Here's some words from the champ: Having finally climbed up to the rarified air of the top of the Rogue Puck heap, I suspect everyone is expecting me to share my winning strategy, and I am quite happy to do so. First, pick Habs. If there are no Habs in the grouping, pick a former Hab. If there are no former Habs, pick someone who wants to be a Hab that pretty much opens it up to everyone. Second, pick Steve Yzerman. Even when he retires, pick him anyway. Third, never make a trade your loyalty to your players will be rewarded. Fourth, and most importantly, NEVER pick a Leaf. Even if they make the playoffs, refuse to have one on your roster, even if Bill insists on an all-Leaf grouping. Fifth, did I mention "pick Habs"? So there you have it. Follow these simple rules and you too will win the Rogue Puck every 10 years or so. In the other years, someone has to sit at the bottom protecting the fragile egos of his competitors. "Is Smale in the pool? Good. At least I won't be last..." Oh, and by the way, breaking the dominance of Terry Stewart has certainly been gratifying, but as he pointed out to me recently, the weight of all these Rogue Pucks is causing BMH to sink faster than Porter Library!

Belfour made the saves he didn't make in Game One and Brett Hull scored his second goal of the night with 4:16 remaining as the Stars evened the best-of-seven series at one win apiece with a 2-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils. Pulled after allowing six goals on only 18 shots in Tuesday's opener, Belfour made 27 saves and won for the ninth time in as many starts following a loss. He stopped all 19 shots over the final two periods and helped the defending Stanley Cup champions kill a key power play midway through the third. "I felt a lot stronger today and was seeing the puck really well," said Belfour, who blamed his Game One performance on an adverse reaction to a prescription decongestant. "It definitely felt like I was back on track."

UKRAINIAN PRO HOCKEY UPDATE by Ihor Stelmach Bondra coping without Pivonka A bevy of Washington Capitals' observers and fans wondered how right winger Peter Bondra would react when his longtime center, Michal Pivonka, was sidelined with a knee injury in late October. Bondra, one of the NHL's top goal scorers the past two seasons, went through a brief adjustment period (no points in three out of four games), then quickly went back to his usual routine. The end result was his being named NHL player of the week for the period ending November 24, 1996. He had three goals and six assists for nine points as the Caps went 3-0-1. His new linemates, center (and fellow Ukrainian) Andrei Nikolishin and left winger Chris Simon, were playing a critical part in the story. Simon was particularly hot, getting six goals and 10 points in nine games after being acquired from the Colorado Avalanche. "Michal who?" joked Bondra when asked what would happen when Pivonka returned. "We're playing well so far, so I don't know. It's up to the coaches." "We'll worry about that when Michal gets back," said Capitals' coach Jim Schoenfeld.

LNH - Canadien
