McKay was selected by Detroit Red Wings round 6, #113 overall in 1985 NHL Entry Draft. He played for the Detroit Red Wings, New Jersey Devils Dallas Stars and Montreal Canadiens during his NHL career. Although a physical presence on the ice, he is best remembered for scoring the winning goal in game 6 of the 1995 Eastern Conference Final against the Philadelphia Flyers ; the Devils won the game 4-2 and went on to win their first Stanley Cup against the Detroit Red Wings in 4 games. McKay was also a member of the New Jersey Devils when they won Stanley Cup in 2000 against the Dallas Stars in six games. Hockey's Future Why Not Team Quebec? by Howard Fienberg January 18, 2002 In days of yore, when National Hockey League players were all Canadian anyhow, a good portion of them were frogs. Times change. The only frogs headed to Salt Lake at the moment are Mario Lemieux, Simon Gagne, Eric Desjardins and Martin Brodeur. Presuming that those four would be unavailable to Team Quebec, who else would be? Few superstars, once the goaltender position is filled. If this synopsis causes Quebecois to fear that they are losing their grip on the sport... what can I say, it is true. This Quebec squad would have trouble beating any of the big six teams. They might even struggle against the preliminary round elimination teams, like Germany and Slovakia. Ah, well.
