Hey SI, stay away from hockey
Them's the Breaks
Ben Mills
Sports Editor
Does Sports Illustrated know anything about hockey? After reading a recent article in SI titled "Why Everyone Hates the Leafs," I was livid at the amount of inaccuracies and general lack of hockey knowledge the story possessed. I was also amazed that SI actually wrote about hockey. First of all, I must point out that I am a Leafs fan, but any red-blooded hockey fan who read this story could point out the mistakes in Michael Farber's article. Pat Quinn is referred to as an "emotional man in an emotional sport." Quinn's about as emotional as Ed Belfour is sane. Good job on that one, Mike. Strike one. Farber then tried to say that the reason for Shayne Corson's "chippiness" was due to the fact that his offensive output has dropped over the past several seasons. NEWSFLASH: Corson has always been a fighter and the reason for his lack of offensive output is because he's old. Strike two. Farber also examines why CBC always shows Leafs games on television as opposed to other Canadian teams. Hmm... Toronto's still the biggest city in Canada, isn't it? Doesn't southern Ontario represent over one-third of Canada's population? Ever heard of regional blackouts? If you lived in New York, would you bitch and complain about there not being enough Tampa Bay Lightning games on TV? I think not.

There is now a feature on our web site that allows you to create your ranking list by simply clicking on player's names. You can also edit your ranking list by cutting and pasting, can save it to work on later, and can e-mail your list straight to us from the web page. Click on the following link to get to that create ranking list page
Left Wings
Right Wings Centers Defensemen ... Goalies The first number is the Scoresheet Player number , the second number is his total points earned last season (using our game's formulas), the third number is his average rating per game he played last season, the fourth number is the player's age as of Opening Day, and then his current NHL team (as of 8/19/02) is shown. Players with a dash (-) after their name were unsigned as of 8/19/02. If you are turning in your draft list by e-mail you can just download this player list, and then cut and paste the player's entire line to your draft list (ending up with a draft list with players listed in the order you want to draft them). You do not have to delete anything (points, age, etc) - you can just leave the whole line as is. Or, as mentioned above, you can create your ranking sheet by clicking on names by going to the following link:

SEASON IS OVER !

Send in your news! PeeWee 1 Team Wins Valley League and Dual State League Championships! The Masco Youth Hockey Pee Wee 1 team capped off a remarkable season by winning the playoff championships in both the Valley League and Dual State League last weekend. The team finished the week-long playoff run with a perfect 5 - record. Their cumulative season record was an outstanding 28 wins, 5 losses and 9 ties. The playoffs started on April 10th with a Valley League quarterfinal contest versus a spirited Lynnfield team. Lynnfield scored an early goal and then played a strong defensive game hoping to contain the powerful Masco offense. Late in the second period, however, Masco tallied twice. The first goal was scored by Eric Doyle as he muscled his way through two defenders and fired a low shot past the Lynnfield goalie. Doyle's goal was assisted by Kevin McAllister and Nate Adams-Cook. The second Masco goal was scored 5 minutes later by Chris Roach as he redirected a shot from Lee Greeley. In the third period, Masco's offense erupted for 3 unanswered goals by McAllister, Roach and Greeley. The final goal by Greeley was certainly the prettiest of the entire tournament. Roach found Greeley standing alone at the far left post. Greeley made an unselfish pass across the crease to McAllister. Then, to the astonishment of everyone in the rink, McAllister slid a return pass back to Greeley who was standing all by himself with a totally empty net.
