With the win at the Big Hat ice arena, Canada improved to a perfect 3-0 in round-robin play to claim first place in group D and set up a quarterfinal match with Kazakstan, which finished in fourth place in group C, in the knock-out portion of the tourney. The U.S., meanwhile, fell to a record of one win and two losses and will face the loser of the game between Russia and the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals of the single-elimination tourney getting under way Wednesday. The Russia-Czech Republic game, which will determine the winner of group C, will be played later Monday evening. Primeau, who plays with the Carolina Hurricanes of the North American National Hockey League (NHL), scored a short-handed goal in the middle of the second period, banging in a rebound off a Steve Yzerman shot. | |
