Hockey Falls To Nebraska-Omaha, 3-2 Junior goaltender Mike Johnson makes 33 saves in the non-conference loss. Nov. 10, 2000 OMAHA, Neb. The University of Nebraska-Omaha scored two third period goals en route to a 3-2 win over the University of Massachusetts in non-conference college hockey action tonight at the Omaha Civic Auditorium in front of 7,397. UNO broke open a 1-1 game with two goals in just over a minute midway through the third period. Mike Gabinet scored on a slapshot from the point 7:57 into the period to give the Mavericks a 2-1 lead. A minute and two seconds later, Andrew Wong scored off a pass from Gabinet to put UNO ahead 3-1. UMass scored with 47 seconds remaining in the game to pull within one at 3-2. Senior captain

Judy DeMers seconded. Motion carried. Saturday/Sunday Basketball-Volleyball Proposal: Sue Jeno said she sent a resolution to President Kupchella on behalf of the IAC outlining the committees concerns with the moving basketball and volleyball to a Saturday/Sunday afternoon format. She followed up with a phone call to the President’s Office. Phil Harmeson told her that they had received the memo and would have more time to address the issue after the legislative session. Facilities – Wellness: Sue Jeno reported that the students have not decided on a plan for their Wellness Center At this time, they seem to be leaning toward a free standing facility as opposed to renovating the Hyslop.

123 MORE PLAYERS TRY-OUT FOR NATIONAL SQUAD
CALGARY - Tom Renney and Mike Johnston wrapped-up their first of four evaluation camps for the 1996-97 national men's hockey team today in Halifax and now make their way to Caledon, Ontario, for the second camp and a look at 56 interested players.
Renney and Johnston, the national team coaches, will be at the Ice Corral at Teen Ranch in Caledon, Ontario, from Saturday May 25 to Monday, May 27. They will be at College Jean-de-Brebeuf in Montreal from May 29-31, and then end the evaluation camps tour at Jemini 4 Arena in Saskatoon from June 5-7. They will be on the ice in the mornings from 9 to 12 noon and will hold intra-squad games in the evening (call for game times in your area).
At the camp in Halifax, Renney evaluated 35 players and he will now add another 123 confirmed players from the last three camps to his list of national team hopefuls for the main September camp in Calgary. Fifty-six players will be stepping on the ice in Caledon, Montreal's camp will see 27 players, and another 40 will attend the Saskatoon try-out.
The national team coaches will see a variety of talent coming from an even greater assortment of locations and teams. There are players from Canadian major junior leagues, junior A teams, junior B clubs, American and Canadian universities, and even players from German and French professional teams.

Player of the Year Josh Cohen, Walter Johnson, Sr. Often the most skilled player on the ice, Cohen played both defense and forward this season, leading the Wildcats to their first MSHL public school championship. He had 22 goals and 17 assists in 13 regular season games. He was named to the MSHL all-star game for the second consecutive year.
Coach of the Year Paul Tilch, Gonzaga An All-Met defenseman for Gonzaga in 1997, Tilch took over his alma mater's team three years ago the year after it posted a four-win season. Under Tilch, Gonzaga's 11-year-old program has shown steady improvement, culminating in its first Maryland Scholastic Hockey League private school championship this season. The Eagles won the title game 4-1 over rival and defending champion DeMatha.
