UMC Hockey Team Wins Champion Title in First Year of MCHA Play UMC’s first season affiliated with the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA) wrapped up Friday and Saturday February 25 and 26, 2000, at The Ponds in Brookfield, Wisconsin. The Golden Eagle hockey team brought home the MCHA Final Four Championship this past weekend. They beat Northand College in the semifinals on Friday evening, 6-4, and ended Marian College’s hopes of an MCHA championship on Saturday, winning 4-3. Along with bringing home the MCHA team hardware they also had five members named to the MCHA All-Conference first and second teams and placed four on the MCHA Final Four All-Tourney team, with Scott Swenson taking home tournament MVP honors. Topping it all off, UMC’s Head Coach Mark Huglen was named MCHA Coach of the Year. UMC’s All-Conference Selections First Team Kelly Kilgore - Kilgore a 6’2” 195 junior out of Grand Forks, ND has had an exceptional year for the Golden Eagles. In conference games Kilgore is tied for the team lead in scoring with 14 points (6 goals, 8 assists). The good hands and play making ability of Kilgore has made him recognizable for this honor of all-conference, he has also made the teammates around him better in every aspect of the game. When Kilgore is on the ice UMC scores goals, Kilgore has a +/- ratio of +8, the second highest on the team in conference play. Kelly was nominated one time for MCHA Player of the Week this season.

DESPITE SPIRITED COMEBACK HUSKIES FALL 3-2 TO NORTHERN MICHIGAN
Five Players Register Double-Digits In Kills HOUGHTON, Mich. Northern Michigan escaped with a hard-fought 3-2 (31-29, 30-16, 22-30, 26-30, 15-13) victory over the Michigan Tech volleyball team in front of a near-record crowd Tuesday night at the Student Development Complex Gym. After dropping the first two games, the Huskies charged back into the contest by winning the third and fourth games, but the Wildcats won by the fewest of margins in the final game to secure their first conference win of the season. The visitors won the opening two games 31-29 and 30-16, but behind a .244 attack percentage in games three and four, Tech picked up 30-16 and 30-26 victories. The Huskies held the Wildcats to a lowly .034 hitting percentage during that same span. A see-saw battle continued in game five, as the two teams traded points and at one point the score was knotted at 10-10. NMU slowly built a 14-13 lead and later put the match away with a kill to end the evening for the home team. "I was proud of how our girls battled back after trailing 2-0 to start the match," said seventh-year head coach Krista Mikesch. "It certainly would have been great to get a win with such an awesome crowd here tonight, but we came up just short. Hopefully we can learn from this match and make some improvements before we play at Mercyhurst."

Welcome to Wisconsin Prep Hockey WAHA's Connor: I'd rather have fifteen players than zero Written by Michael Trzinski Monday, 05 September 2005 Many people are surprised or will be surprised to hear that the Team Wisconsin pre/post team has five Minnesota players on its roster. That move was necessitated after the team lost five roster players to the junior ranks. "We lost five guys before we even played a game," said Team Wisconsin general manager Mike Connor.
