Jaromir Jagr
Jaromir Jagr was born on February 15, 1972 in Kladno, Czech Republic. He played junior hockey in his hometown and won bronze medals in the 1990 World Juniors and the World Championship. Jagr was drafted in 1990 by the Pittsburgh Penguins as their 1st choice, 5th overall. He scored 57 points in his first season with the Penguins and was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team. Jagr would get an early taste of success as the Lemieux led powerhouse Penguins won back to back Stanley Cup Championships in his first two seasons. Jagr's offensive numbers continued to improve year over year, and in 1995 he became the first European player to win the Art Ross trophy with 149 points in the regular season. He would go on to repeat that feat four more times. Teamed up with Mario Lemieux, Jagr contined to tear up the NHL throughout the 1990s. He broke Mike Bossy's record for most goals by a right-winger in his most productive season. The 1995-96 season also saw Jagr put up career highs in goals, assists and points as he notched 149 points. As the Penguins continued to face financial troubles and after a decade in Pittsburgh, Jagr was dealt to the Washington Capitals in the summer of 2001. The trade saw the Pens receive Kris Beech, Michal Sivek, Ross Lupaschuk and future considerations for Jaromir Jagr and defenseman Frantisek Kucera. Though the move to Washington hasn't yielded the predicted fireworks, Jagr continues to be a threat everytime he steps on the ice. With the Capitals off to a slow start in 2003, it is possible that Jaromir might be on the move once again.

Jagr, Jaromir
Encyclopedia Article Jagr, Jaromir , born in 1972, Czech American professional ice hockey player who helped the Pittsburgh Penguins win the National Hockey League (NHL) title in 1991 and 1992. In 1998 he also helped the Czech Republic win the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan. Born in Kladno, Czechoslovakia, before the country was divided into the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Jagr joined his city’s club team at the age of 16. He also played on the Czechoslovakia national team before being drafted by the Penguins in 1990. An immediate fan favorite, Jagr chose jersey number 68 to honor the Czech people’s suffering during the Soviet invasion of Prague in 1968. A potent offensive threat at right wing, Jagr helped the Penguins win the Stanley Cup in 1991 and was elected to the All-Rookie Team with 27 goals and 30 assists. The next season Jagr upped those totals to 32 goals and 37 assists despite playing in 10 fewer games. He also turned in a strong playoff performance, scoring 24 points (11 goals, 13 assists) in 21 postseason games as the Penguins won their second consecutive title.

May 2005 - Jaromir Jagr
He won Stanley Cups, Olympic titles and several scoring titles throughout his career. Strangely enough he never won the IIHF World Championship trophy. Not until 2005. Jaromir Jagr was a dominant force behind the Czech victory in Austria that thwarted Canada winning its third straight gold medal. Playing on one of the strongest Czech teams of the past decade Jagr knew this year was an excellent chance to capture the much wanted trophy. Not in the least because the Czech was looking to take revenge for their early quarter final exit last year at home. Number 68 himself missed an important penalty shot in the all decisive series against the United States. Jaromir Jagr earned himself the European Hockey.Net Player of the Month Award by leading his team to win the gold. Now aged 32, Jagr has more and more become a team player instead of that lethal sniper he used to be. His two assists in the final against Canada underline this.

January 2005 - Jaromir Jagr
The winner for January 2005 is Jaromir Jagr of Russian team Avangard Omsk.
Kladno, about 30 kilometres west of Prague, is mainly known for its steel production. On a cold Tuesday morning in February people went to work as usually. No one then realised that day would bring forward something that would make the city and its inhabitants very proud.
Jaromir Jagr always belonged to the best hockey players of the Czechoslovakia in his age group. The son of a hotel-chain owner started skating at the age of three and found himself in the Czechoslovakian Extraliga as a 16-year old. "He was stronger and more technical than other guys of his age and size back then", David Schlegel, editor of esports.cz, remembers.
In his debut season for Kladno , a mediocre team at the time, he scored 18 points in 39 games. He made sure he was on the radar of the NHL scouts by delivering a fine performance at the European Junior Championships (the precursor of the current WJC18) by notching 12 points in just 5 games.
