Kristi Yamaguchi
Special to Page 2
Kristi Yamaguchi Nearly 10 years to the day since Kristi Yamaguchi's greatest triumph Olympic gold at the 1992 Winter Games in Albertville, France the U.S. figure skating star is being put to the test again. Before the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics begin this weekend, Page 2's Ray Holloman put the former U.S. and world champion figure skater from Fremont, Calif., through the challenge of 10 Burning Questions. And as usual, success depends on how you perform under pressure in the long program, not the cumpulsories. Page 2: "South Park" made one of your U.S. Olympic teammates, Brian Boitano, a pop culture fixture in the film "South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut." So we think what America wants to know is ... when you've been in a tough situation in the past, did you ever ask yourself, "What would Brian Boitano do?" Brian Boitano Kristi Yamaguchi: Yeah, actually. Brian's been a huge role model for me, particularly when I was coming up, so I've definitely thought "What would Brian Boitano do?" What does Brian think about the whole "South Park" bit?

10 things to remember about 2002-03
By John Buccigross
Special to ESPN.com And so there I was, at Game 6 of the Stanley Cup final, shaking the hand of Mike Myers. Not the 33-year-old situational lefty reliever for the Arizona Diamondbacks, but the 40-year-old comedic Canadian who created the Austin Powers trilogy and is a bona fide hero to me. Here's a quote of his. It's the kind of quote you cut out and stick somewhere in your cubicle at work: SHOT OF THE WEEK LAST WEEK: While Devils coach Pat Burns points out the stray spleen on the ice, winger Jeff Friesen suddenly is hypnotized by the smell of the nachos in the first row.

The ice is their canvas. They are hockey's Rembrandt, Picasso, and Dali. Across the vast ice they maneuver, sometimes fast and furious, sometimes slow and smoothly,-but always their skating is artistry. Their cuts and turns and bursts of speed create masterpieces every bit as beautiful to behold as Van Gogh's "Starry Night."

On Golden Ice - Skating's First Family
by Eric Gislason
Editor's Note: KSTP-Television sports anchor/reporter Eric Gislason is a lifelong hockey player. He grew up playing hockey in Minnesota and still considers pushing the puck with his son on their backyard rink his favorite pastime. During Gis's 19-year television career, he has covered many events in the world of hockey, from Peewees to pros. In the following pages, he shares with MHJ readers one of his favorite stories. A story that, for him, broke a common hockey player/figure skater stereotype.
I'm not big on conspiracy theories, but I do have one as a native Minnesotan. When I was growing up, I lived to play hockey and spent countless hours at the rink. From what I recall, the hockey players didn't have the time of day for figure skaters. And from what I found out, the feeling from figure skaters was mutual.
After all, figure skaters chopped up our ice and often left dangerous "potholes" for us pucksters. Plus, it was our contention that the figure-skating community chewed up the best and most precious ice times.
From what I heard from behind enemy lines, i.e., the figure-skating community, hockey players were gross and stupid, and if it weren't for sticks and biscuits, figure skaters would have more ice time themselves. Clearly, there was a line drawn on the ice.

    40. Peak Performance Hockey Camps: Hockey Camp, Training, Skating
Challenging Camp for All hockey Players —bret hedican, Florida Panthers. Quality Ice Time with Great Student/Coach Ratio
    http://www.peakhockey.com/
The Peak Performance Hockey Camps are recognized throughout the nation as In Hockey Skills Development Camps! Welcome to the 2005 Peak Performance Hockey Camps! For 12 years, we have been dedicated to providing a hockey camp environment that has proven to be challenging, educational, and enjoyable! Our objective is to ensure that each participant has an opportunity to improve their individual skills in a fun, yet challenging environment and to leave camp with a game plan for enhanced skills development. We are family owned and operated and take pride in knowing that our customers receive a first class hockey camp experience. The window of opportunity for skills development is now upon your child. We look forward to providing the skills training to help take your child to the next level of play! "COMPETITION WITHOUT PREPARATION IS ANTI-DEVELOPMENTAL" - Herb Brooks - 2006 CAMP DATES COMING SOON! Thank You For Another Great Summer Of Hockey Camp Memories!! Why Skills Training? In a game, an average player has the puck on his stick for only 20-30 seconds. Hardly enough time to feel the puck, let alone develop any hockey skills. As far as skating, he will be on the ice for an average of 12-14 minutes in a one hour game. Make the smart choice this summer. Games alone will not get it done. To make it to the next level, you need to continue to improve your individual skills and learn to play outside of your comfort zone! Choose to develop your individual skills!
