Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. Free agent season has begun, the Leafs have not signed a big name player and Leaf fans are lining up on the Ambassador bridge, awaiting their turn to jump. Oh, you have heard that one? Well I thought you might have, after all, it happens every summer in these parts. There are many explanations as to why Leaf fans have this unstoppable need to mentally abuse themselves every summer. Some attribute it to the fact that it’s been 36 years since a championship in these parts, and the fans are getting a little desperate. Others place the blame squarely on Leaf management. The argument here is that due to their inactivity on the free agent front it leaves the poor fan with no other choice. However, I’m here to forward another theory.

Over the past month or so I have written several hockey related articles for this blog and I intend to write several more. As a result of this I decided that it made a lot of sense to create a hockey specific blog. So with this post I would like to announce the creation of HockeyAnalysis.com . I intend to grow this website beyond just a personal hockey blog so be sure to check it out, especiallyif you are a hockey blogger yourself and are interested in cross posting some of your blog articles. Be sure to spread the word around about HockeyAnalysis.com and I look forward to seeing you all over there.

Here is how the Penguins forward lines looked in 2003-04: Ryan Malone - Milan Kraft - Aleksey Morozov
Rico Fata - Mike Eastwood - Konstantin Koltsov Mark Recchi - Sidney Crosby - Mario Lemieux
John Leclair - Evgeni Malkin - Ziggy Palffy
Ryan Malone - Milan Kraft - Aleksey Morozov Yes, last years first line might be this years third line. Of course, I really feel for Jocelyn Thibault and Marc-Andre Fleury because I am not sure any of those guy know how to play a ton of defense and neither do many of their defensemen. The Penguins defense currently looks like this:

The Bargains: When Maple Leafs captain Mats Sundin went down with a wrist injury, Alyn McCauley became the lowest paid number-one centre in the NHL playoffs at . He racked up 15 points in 20 games, hit opponents, backchecked and generally showed up wealthier stars like Alex Mogilny ($5.5 million). Though he lacks the profile of Canadian Olympians Rob Blake and Adam Foote, Greg Devries was a rock on the Colorado defence. He played 24 minutes a night and was the team's highest scoring defenseman with 13 points. By NHL standards, that's

Weekly Word
by Dan Scifo January 26, 2004 What is wrong with New York Rangers' General Manager Glenn Sather? The defense is horrible, so let's add some more offense, right? For all you hockey fans who weren't living under a rock this weekend, you know the big news on the rink was Jaromir Jagr being shipped from our nation's capital to the New York Rangers in exchange for Anson Carter and a reconfiguration of Jagr's $11 million-per-year contract. Why do the New York Rangers need a head case like Jagr? All they're going to get out of the Czech superstar is another disgruntled player who's past his prime, doesn't play defense, has another big money contract and a seventh consecutive year without a play-off berth. If Sather thinks Jagr is the answer to the Rangers' playoff drought, he's sadly mistaken. Jagr hasn't produced a 100-point season since his last season in Pittsburgh when he ravaged the opposition, accumulating 121 points and the Art Ross. Despite averaging roughly a point a game in Washington, his plus/minus and point totals were drastically reduced from his Art Ross and Hart Trophy days with the Penguins. Capitals owner Ted Leonsis was beside himself the day he brought Jagr to Washington, D.C. It seemed as if he had completed the deal of the century by acquiring Wayne Gretzky in the prime of his career for a few broken hockey sticks and a button with some string attached to it. He might as well have scheduled a victory celebration in downtown Washington, D.C, because Leonsis thought Jagr was going to bring that team a Stanley Cup next season.
