ORTLIP LEADS HUSKIES OVER DARTMOUTH, 3-2
HANOVER, NH - Northeastern freshman Eric Ortlip scored his first two collegiate goals 17 seconds apart in the third period to give Northeastern a come from behind 3-2 victory at Dartmouth Saturday night.
The Huskies trailed 2-1 in the third, but at 4:12, Ortlip took a pass from senior Sean MacDonald and put the puck on a blast over Dartmouth goalie Nick Boucher's left shoulder. NU won the ensuing faceoff, and again MacDonald set up Ortlip, this time at 4:29 for the game-winner. The assists were MacDonald's first two of the season.
Three different players scored their first goals of the season in the game: Ortlip for NU and Michael Byrne and Gary Hunter for Dartmouth.
Mike Gilhooly came up huge in net again for NU, making numerous big saves in the third period and throughout the game. The sophomore made 13 in the third period alone. He finished the game with 35 saves, a season high. Over the last three games, Gilhooly has played 190 minutes, with a 1-0-2 record, 86 saves and only five goals allowed (1.57 GAA, .945 SV%). Boucher had 26 stops for Dartmouth.
The win snaps a six-game winless streak for NU, as the Huskies had been 0-4-2 in their last six. Their last win came Nov. 12 over Boston University, 4-1. NU now has a three-game unbeaten streak, 1-0-2.

Rangers Still Trying to Find Themselves The Rangers are just over the mid-season mark and their play still doesn't have any kind of personality or definition.
Eric Lindros has been their best player for a few weeks, but even he might not be enough to rescue this lost team ( they did manage to tie the Devils last night, though A possible solution
...what could be a nice compromise between Ranger fans and Sather, Lindros spent some time against the Lightning playing with Messier, and it didn't look too bad. They're both tough players who have amazing instincts. Whereas you can often see Simon and Barnaby almost struggling to process Lindros' increasingly brilliant passes, Messier, with over 200 years of NHL experience, might thrive with such a playmaker.

The WHA's commissioner is, of course, Bobby Hull, whose son Brett, of course, plays for the Wings.
WHA is still a big question mark. A lot of people seem to doubt the WHA will ever get off the ground. If they can launch, and the NHL does strike, they could end up a pretty potent league, though. I imagine a lot of NHLers would be willing to take a pay cut not to have to play in Europe.

When you see the 72-year-old guy with the helmet in one corner of the rink, and the puke bucket in the other, you understand.
When you see the faded signs on the rusted mills and the soot-stained smokestacks, you understand.
When you meet the father, a mechanic, and the mother, a waitress, you understand.
Berard laced them up for the Rangers last season. Bryan Berard turned down a guaranteed $6.5 million insurance payment to lace up his skates in an NHL rink for a fraction of that. A man who grew up expecting to win All-Star honors and Stanley Cups now wants simply to have his name on a playoff stat sheet. The decision cost Berard his life savings, and maybe much more if he's not careful. But when you visit the place Berard grew up a Rhode Island town where nothing shines brighter than the edge of a skate blade you understand.
Boys from Woonsocket either play hockey at prestigious Mount St. Charles Academy or hope to find a service industry job somewhere after they graduate. Bryan Berard was one of the lucky ones. "The Mount" produced NHLers
