Interview With 36 matthew barnaby. Wednesday March 31, 2004 Do you feelyou re playing the best hockey of your career now?

Interview With #36 Matthew Barnaby Wednesday - March 31, 2004 Hello New York and everywhere else, welcome back to the Birdcage. A few days ago I was very surprised to open my e-mail and find a note from #36 Matthew Barnaby. He wanted to thank Hockeybird for it's support while he was a Ranger. Well, I was floored. I just had to ask if he'd come on with us for a few questions and to my delight he agreed. So folks....Here's Matthew ! BIRD: Matthew, thanks for taking the time to do this and welcome to Hockeybird. It's become quite obvious that you enjoyed your stay here in NY, what was it that made it so special to you ? MATT: The fans have been great to me and my family. I know they want to win and they are frustrated, but they appreciate an honest effort and they know the game. BIRD: In your journal on mattbarnaby.com you posted in late August that "No Golf in May 2004" was a team motto. For some of you it's fulfilled. How exciting is it to know you'll be playing in the playoffs ? MATT: I am very happy. All a player wants is an opportunity. I believed that we (the Rangers) were going to be there. BIRD: You played on a line that had some good success with Moose and Simon....how much fun was that ?

23. Hockeybird.com: MB 36 II (A Second Convo With Matt)
The following is an interview we had scheduled with 36 matthew barnaby hockey is more of a blue collar sport than any other except maybe football.
http://mt.hockeybird.com/archives/002676.html
MB 36 II (A second convo with Matt) Friday - April 22, 2005 The following is an interview we had scheduled with #36 Matthew Barnaby back when a season was still possible. If I remember correctly I sent the questions the Friday before the season was cancelled then un-cancelled. Matthew had other things to attend to but did want to complete the interview. Rather than re-word the whole thing as to include more recent events I've decided to just publish it as is. Hello NY and everywhere else, welcome back to the Birdcage. I'm sure you know by now that we have stopped covering every little article on the current CBA talks. The posturing and comments coming out of both sides are no longer worth the time. Cut a deal and get it done already. However, I am pleased to discuss the lockout with people who aren't gonna feed me PR crap. I can think of no one better than Hockeybird favorite, #36, Matthew Barnaby. Matt was kind enough to talk to us when he joined Colorado and then allowed us to ask a few Q's when he signed with Chicago. Today, Matthew has once again agreed to give us a bit of his time and answer some questions about the lockout. While we'd be happy to have someone representing ownership here at Hockeybird, Gary Bettman has restricted commentary by the owners. Those we contacted who did respond have politely declined. Even "off the record" comments have slowed to a trickle if at all. Frankly, we'd rather talk to MB 36 anyway. Bird: Once again, welcome to Hockeybird Matthew. Knowing of your passion for your family my first question is about them, how is your son doing and how have you used the time off due to the lockout in regards to your family?

An Interview with Pittsburgh Penguin Matthew Barnaby
Feb 6, 2001, by Nick "A great team player and a penaly minute magnet, Matt Barnaby first caught my eye when he and Ted Nolan provided the Buffalo Sabres with a much needed spinal transfusion. A world class pest, a hard nosed tough guy, and a player whose skills far transcend those of old school enforcers, Matt is clicking nicely in Pittsburgh. -Be sure to check out www.mattbarnaby.com as you will read below, this is bright, funny honest guy, and his site contains a daily diary worth your attention. I'll be lucky if I ever get better answers than Matt's. So, what do you say to a guy who smiles and sticks his tongue out during NHL brawls? I say welcome to nickbakay.com" NICK : What kind of an owner would dracula be? MATT : I think he would probably suck.
NICK : Favorite deadly sin: Lust, avarice, sloth, gluttony, pride, envy, anger?

Because of his physical play, Barnaby commands respect for himself and his teammates. The rambunctious winger was drafted in fourth round (83rd overall) of the 1992 NHL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabres. Barnaby spent 5-plus seasons with the Sabres, including a 43-point campaign in 1996-97. The following year, Barnaby proved invaluable in the playoffs, leading the Sabres with seven goals and 13 points. Buffalo dealt the forward to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Stu Barnes in 1999, but he spent just one full season with the Penguins before being traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2001. During the 2001-02 season, Barnaby was dealt to the New York Rangers, where he appeared in 48 games and recorded eight goals and 13 assists. Hockey brought Dale Tallon, far left, to Chicago, where he has been a fixture as a player, broadcaster and now the Blackhawks' assistant general manager. Tallon's talent was dimmed by injury
Oct. 1, 2004
A chain is as strong as its weakest link. The United States lost the space shuttle Challenger to the failure of an inexpensive, non-mechanical part. Years of diplomatic efforts were destroyed and World War I began following the assassination of a minor royal figure in a remote Balkan city. A raindrop joins another and another and another to make a mighty river than can cut down a mountain. Yes, little things mean a lot. Dale Tallon, the assistant general manager of the Chicago Blackhawks, would be considered one of the great defensemen of his era, along with Bobby Orr, Brad Park, Denis Potvin, Larry Robinson and Serge Savard had he not broken one of the smallest bones in his body, a bone in his wrist. A hockey player with a balky wrist is like a two-fingered guitarist, seriously compromised. One of the most highly regarded prospects of the 1970s, Tallon was reduced to average-player status and ended his 10-year NHL career in disappointment at age 29.

NHL Entry Draft
Seasons with Buffalo: 1992-93 to 1998-99
Uniform Number: 36 In seven seasons with the Buffalo Sabres, Matthew Barnaby was both the team's most popular player and it's most despised. His stay in Buffalo was a roller coaster ride unlike any other in team history. During his tenure, he was at the forefront of both the team's highest high, and it's lowest low.
The best way to describe Matthew Barnaby as a player is as the game's ultimate pest. His style of play is in your face, agressive to the point of infuriation. He's brash, cocky and arrogant. He taunts opposing players, talks trash, and fights just about anyone who will pay attention to him long enough to drop the gloves. There's very little middle ground where he's concerned. Barnaby's fans love him. Everyone else in and around the league can't stand him.
Whether you love him or hate him, it's undeniable that Matthew Barnaby remains one of the most interesting and unpredictable characters in the National Hockey League.

The People's Choice Written by: E.J. Hradek, ESPN Magazine A quick story about Matthew Barnaby: He is 16, playing midget AA hockey in Quebec. Playing hockey costs money.Barnaby's mother, Sandra, and brother, Brent, 13 years his senior, are struggling to pay the bills. Things get so bad that there is no money for Matthew's hockey fees.
A decision is made. Matthew will quit school for a while and join Brent to work at the local lumberyard in Nepean, a suburb of Ottawa. He'll make some quick money, then return to school.
"He was a good worker," Brent says of his little brother, "but I think he realized it might be more fun to earn his living playing hockey."
Today, Barnaby gets his fun from running forwards twice his size, playing the role of the guy you love to hate, watching first-round draft picks like Eric Lindros go home early while late-rounders like himself advance deep into the spring. His fun is scoring five goals in two rounds of the playoffs, and in standing right behind Dominik Hasek as reasons why the Sabres have a real shot at seeing their names etched onto the side of the Stanley Cup.
Ask Brent if he could have imagined such a scenario back when he and Matthew drove from small-town Aylmer, Quebec, to the Maurice Richard Arena in Montreal for the 1990 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League draft. Matthew, 17, was expecting to be a seventh- or eighth-round pick. By Round 15, his name had not been called. In tears, he told his brother it was time to leave. Brent joked, "You'll probably be the last player picked."

The Lightning's captain addresses the crowd at the newly-named Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena. Andreychuk met the Stanley Cup on Friday, July 30 at the McMaster Children's Hospital in his hometown. Dave took the beautifully-polished trophy up and down the halls, visiting the children who are patients there and leaving the delighted kids with autographed photographs and specially-printed t-shirts. After arriving in Buffalo, Andreychuk's first stop was to visit new friends at the Children's Hospital of Buffalo. Dave lugged the Stanley Cup up the mountain to the backyard of his parents' home to the great delight of family, friends and neighbours. Dave's Mom and Dad have chronicled their son's excellent career by posting newspaper articles all over the walls of the garage. As guests entered the garage to get a plateful of food, they would read from the walls; every one of which was covered with stories about Dave's career. " I was so fortunate to spend the first fourteen seasons of my career playing within an hour's drive of where I grew up, " Dave stated from the backyard.
