Humpy split the point with Todorov Ognjan of Bulgaria in the final round and the table with 8.5 points. The fourteen-year-old, who won the second GM norm in the 9th round, was tied at 8.5 points with Stojenovic Mihagilo of Yugoslavia but since Humpy defeated him in the fifth round the title went her way. Humpy, who became the first Indian Woman Grand Master to have two GM norms, played king’s Indian attack and settled for a draw in eleven moves. She also has the 11 round GM norm for having 8.5 points for the category seven GM tournament, which was the result of six wins and five draws.

85. CHESS Oscar - World Best Chess Player Award
They have named the top ten strongest, in their opinion, chess players of 2004 . zsuzsa polgar (Hungary) and Almira Skripchenko (France) are among them.

Oscar 2004 Final Results Anand, Viswanathan India Kasparov, Garry Russia Leko, Peter Hungary Kramnik, Vladimir Russia Kasimdzhanov, Rustam Uzbekistan Topalov, Veselin Bulgaria Ivanchuk, Vassily Ukraine Adams, Michael England Morozevich, Alexander Russia Grischuk, Alexander Russia Svidler, Peter Russia Shirov, Alexei Spain Bacrot, Etienne France Volokitin, Andrei Ukraine Vaganian, Rafael A Armenia
The Russian Chess Observer "64" (the editor-in-chief - Alexander Roshal) defined the owner of "Oscar" - the international award which is handed over to the best chess player of the last year for the 10th time. 445 chess experts from 75 countries of the world have taken part in the anniversary voting (including 74 grandmasters). They have named the top ten strongest, in their opinion, chess players of 2004. The 1st place in the list was estimated by 13 points, 2nd - 11, 3rd - 9, 4th - 7, 5th – 6, …, 10th - 1 point.
The Indian GM Viswanathan Anand, who achieved 5205 points is the owner of the bronze statuette of "The Fascinated Wanderer". He is the only one mentioned in all the lists, and in 279 lists he is on the first place! And no wonder: " The Tiger from Madras " has a unique collection of the first places at various tournaments in classical and rapid chess. Vishy was certainly a leader of the Indian team at the Olympiad in Spain. In general, his present victory, as well as the previous ones, is undisputed.
This is the second “double” for Anand – he successively became the owner of Oscar in 1997 and 1998. In the newest history of this award only Garry Kasparov achieved the same results (1995-96 and 2001-02). Kasparov and Anand together have received 9 of 10 Oscars from “64”. One more was received by Vladimir Kramnik in the year 2000.

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov: "FIDE shall not follow the whims of any individuals, even the outstanding players". During the opening of the 54 th Chess Championship of Russia, FIDE President shocked many people, having said that he was ready to put his signature under the open letter of 3 Ks - A. Karpov, G. Kasparov and V. Kramnik, - and having mentioned a possibility of the match with Kasparov, Kramnik, Anand and Shirov. However, in his exclusive interview to Sport Express, Mr. Ilyumzhinov was transparent that his position remains the same: - I have nothing against an open dialogue with any chess player in the world. But FIDE is not a small private company, it is a serious organisation, and its President is a busy man. We have our Supreme Body, FIDE General Assembly, and our next Congress is this September in Greece. At this forum, every delegate shall have a right to make a speech. Q: I assume that the authors of the letter would prefer this dialogue to take place on a "neutral territory".

Hungo Chess Babe Sets World Record
Four-time World Chess Champion Zsuzsa Polgár has set a new world record. The 36-year-old, Hungarian-born Polgár played simultaneous games against 326 opponents - aged four to 95 - in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, earlier this week. According to the Guinness Book of World Records , the previous record involved one chess player and 321 opponents. Polgár won 309 of the games, lost three, and had 14 draw, leading to another world record, for the highest percentage (96.93%) of games won. Meanwhile, during the 17 hours she was playing she walked 15 kilometers, which, if it isn't considered grounds for a record, should be. Polgár - who is not to be confused with her sister Judit - started playing chess when she was four, and by the age of fifteen, she was World Champion. (Just in case you are interested, here are rankings for both Zsuzsa and Judit .) In 1986, she was the first woman to participate in the world championship, and in 1991, she became the first woman to win the title of Grand Master. And, just like her other younger sisters , she's always looked good while doing it.

Susan Polgar
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Susan Polgar Zsuzsa Polg¡r (born April 19 in Budapest Hungary ), is among the strongest female chess players in history, having been the ninth Women's World Chess Champion from 1996 until 1999. She currently lives in the United States and has Anglicized her name to Susan Polgar to make it easier for English-speakers to pronounce. Along with her two younger sisters , she was coached in chess by her father, Laszlo Polgar . Despite restrictions on her freedom to play in international tournaments, by Zsuzsa had become the top-rated female chess player in the world. However, in November of that year FIDE (with the pressure from the Soviet federation which did not want to see a non-Soviet to be ranked #1) decided to grant 100 bonus ELO rating points to all active female players except her, knocking her out of the top spot in the January, ratings list. The rationale was that Polgar had earned her rating primarily playing against men, whereas other female chess players had deflated ratings from playing in women-only tournaments. The statistical evidence supporting this decision was highly suspect because the data on which it was based was a small subset of the available data. No similar interference with ratings has occurred since. In January , Polgar became the first woman to earn the men's Grandmaster title by achieving three GM norms and rating over 2500. (
