Background
Judit Polgar comes from a Jewish family background in Budapest . (A number of her family members were killed in the Holocaust , and her grandmother was a survivor of Auschwitz ). She and her two older sisters ( Zsuzsa (GM) and Zs³fia (IM)) were part of an educational experiment carried out by their father L¡szl³ Polg¡r , in an effort to prove that children could make exceptional achievements if trained in a specialist subject from a very early age. He and his wife educated their children at home, with chess as the specialist subject. The rest of her family eventually emigrated (Zs³fia and her parents to Israel , Zsuzsa to the US), but she remained in Hungary and married a veterinary surgeon from Budapest.

Strongest female player?
I don't know enough about women's chess to say for sure, but shouldn't the statement "considered by far the best female chess player in history" be removed as POV? I don't think Judit Polgar even had the same dominance in women's chess that Garry Kasparov had in men's chess in the and Lowellian 01:53, Apr 6, 2004 (UTC)
I'm certain the statement is accurate. No other woman player has competed with the world's top men on an equal footing. A few may have got the odd win every now and then ( Vera Menchik did, for instance), but they never competed alongside the men tournament after tournament, getting respectable or good results. In a sense, it's true that Polgar has never been dominant in women's chess, but that's only because she's never played in women-only events. If she did, I don't think there's any doubt that her dominance would be far greater than Kasparov's dominance in the men's game has ever been. Look at her Elo rating and compare it to her nearest female rival: on the latest list, Judit is 2728 (number nine in the world); Xie Jun is 2564 (outside the top 200). That's a big difference.

Judit Polgar, at long, long last, finally has a boyfriend
Recent press reports have said that Judit's parents are moving to Israel, but Judit, 23, is staying behind in Hungary to be with her boyfriend. (A good decision.) Judit recently reached the final eight of the World Chess Championship in Las Vegas , before she lost to Khalifman, the eventual winner.

Chess Olympiad, day nine: Judit Polgar sensational win against Smirin
ISTANBUL, November 5: In what may be the best game thus far in the Olympiad, Judit Polgar scored a smashing win over Ilya Smirin of Israel. Smirin is rated 2674 and is the number 21 rated player in the world. Judit Polgar, age 24, who is by far the top rated woman player in the world, played what seemed to be a speculative exchange sacrifice against Smirin. Several grandmasters present were uncertain of her attack, but she proceeded to mate Smirin quickly. However, her Hungarian team failed to improve its position, as Sax on board three lost to Avrukh of Israel. Judit Polgar
It is said that Avrukh is the last person to have played Grandmaster Tal. Avrukh played Tal blitz chess in the hospital, just before Tal died. Germany, who entered the tournament ranked number 11, continued her surprising first place run with a 3-1 win over Holland. Russia remained in second place by beating Slovakia 3-1. In the other top matches, Armenia beat Switzerland 2.5 to 1.5, Hungary drew Israel 2-2, Ukraine beat Philippines 3.5 to .5, Bulgaria beat Croatia 3.5 to .5, England drew Poland 2-2, USA beat Brazil 3-1, Spain beat Lithuania 3.5 to .5, Romania beat Yugoslavia 3.5 to .5, Cuba drew China 2-2, Bosnia beat the Czech Republic 3-1, Uzbekistan beat India 2.5 to 1.5, Estonia beat Kazakhstan 2.5 to 1.5, Denmark beat Italy 3-1, Iceland beat Sweden 3-1, and Georgia beat Azerbaijan 3-1. After eight rounds and 32 games, Germany leads with 23.5, followed by Russia with 22.5, Ukraine with 22, Armenia and Bulgaria with 21.5, Spain and Romania with 21, Switzerland, Hungary, Israel and USA with 20.5, Netherlands, Slovakia and Bosnia with 20, England, Poland, Uzbekistan, Estonia, Denmark and Iceland with 19.5, China, Cuba and Georgia with 19, Philippines, Brazil, Kazakhstan, and India with 18.5, Croatia, Yugoslavia, Lithuania and Czech Republic with 18.

Susan Polgar, Chess Champion and Founder, Polgar Chess Center
Mention the name "Polgar" to any chess player, and you're bound to see a gleam of recognition, and perhaps envy, in their eye. Susan Polgar is the oldest of three Hungarian sisters (Judit and Sofia are both highly ranked players) who have revolutionized the world of chess, blazing a path for women as career players and upholding a level of talent and professionalism as the world looks to them as the female faces of the game. Susan, who holds the highly-esteemed title of Grandmaster, the first woman ever to do so, has taken her chess-playing prowess and notoriety and used it to promote and teach New Yorkers about the game with the Polgar Chess Center in Queens. The 4-time Women's World Chess Champion got an early start, winning tournaments as early as age 4, and by age 15 was the highest ranking female chess player in the world (a title she still maintains). Her victories are quite staggering in stature and scope, ranging from Olympic wins to awards for Best Chess Column and Chess Educator of the Year. Whether you know what the Ruy Lopez is or not, her Center will have you, providing a welcoming, encouraging atmosphere for newcomers as well as more seasoned players, and by spreading the word about this centuries-old game, Polgar is helping infuse new life into it. Why did you decide to open the Polgar Chess Center? What types of people attend and who else do you hope to attract to the Center?

Judit Polgar reigns without a crown
``I think that chess is the type of game which belongs entirely to men. In a contest like chess one is trying to assert oneself, to prove the supremacy of one's own ego. Women have a different psychology.'' - Garry Kasparov ``I could cede the odds of a knight to any woman player and still beat her easily.'' - Bobby Fischer JUDIT POLGAR was not born when Fischer said that. She was only nine when Kasparov more or less agreed with him thus. At 15 Judit became the youngest Grandmaster in the history of chess. Who was holding that record for the past 33 years? Fischer, considered by many as the greatest chess player ever. That was something not even Kasparov, the strongest player of all time, could do. She hasn't beaten the great Russian yet, but she did come close on a couple of occasions. She is one player who will be missed in the Delhi championship. What makes this good-looking Hungarian girl special is not just the fact that she is the greatest female chess player ever by a long distance, but that she has proved herself in the extremely competitive men's game at the highest level. Unfortunately Judit is not discussed when we talk about the world's greatest sportswomen, because she happens to play in a less glamorous sport.
