A 1990 graduate and two-year varsity basketball player at St. Francis Prep High School, Richmond's collegiate career at LIU was cut short after suffering a broken hip following his sophomore campaign.
"The concepts in basketball that we learn as youth relate to life," said Richmond. "Basketball helps us to develop relationships, it bolsters our confidence and often changes our course in life for the better."
Richmond added, "Big Apple Basketball is important because it provides youth with guidance, tutelage and helps them to become aware of different things they should look out for as they progress in life beyond basketball."
