If you know of one, send us: 1) The name of tourney 2) The location 3) The date 4) A contact name and number and/or website where people can go for more info Send all that to streetball@harris-pub.com and you will be richly rewarded. (OK, no reward, but it'll make our managing editor Susan Price really happy.) When I talked to Sam this morning

APRIL 15, 1965 "Havlicek Stole the Ball!!!" It is the most famous radio call in basketball history, hoops' equivalent to Russ Hodges' famed "The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant!" from baseball's 1951 National League playoffs. In Game 7 of the 1965 Eastern Division Finals, the Celtics' lead had shriveled to 110-109, and Philadelphia regained possession with five seconds left after an inbounds pass attempt by Boston's Bill Russell hit one of the wires that ran down from the ceiling of Boston Garden and helped support the baskets in those days. Hall of Fame guard Hal Greer prepared to toss the ball inbounds under his own basket. The logical target seemed to be massive Wilt Chamberlain in the low post, but Russell fronted Chamberlain and took away that option. Greer spotted forward Chet Walker, seemingly open beyond the key, and passed it to him ... but Boston's John Havlicek had taken a position several feet off the direct line between Greer and Walker, making it look like Walker was open when he really wasn't, and after counting off a couple of seconds in his head, Havlicek sneaked into the passing lane.

Basketball Hall of Fame
/ Feb. 20, 2005
The complete list of finalists includes ten candidates from the North American Screening Committee – players Maurice Cheeks, Adrian Dantley, Dumars, Dennis Johnson, Bernard King, Chet Walker and Wilkins, coaches Boeheim and Calhoun, and contributor Hubie Brown. Two candidates each comprise finalists from the Women’s Screening Committee – coaches Van Chancellor and Sue Gunter – International Screening Committee – Italian coach Sandro Gamba and player Hortencia Marcari from Brazil – and the Veterans Screening Committee - player John Issacs and contributor John Kerr.
The Class of 2005 will be announced on Monday, April 5 at a news conference in Saint Louis, MO prior to the NCAA Men’s Championship game. A Finalist needs 18 of 24 votes from the Honors Committee for election into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Chancellor, Dumars, Gunter and Wilkins are Finalists in their first year of consideration by their respective Screening Committees. Calhoun, King, Johnson, Kerr, Walker, Marcari, Dantley and Cheeks have been named Finalists previously.
NORTH AMERICAN FINALISTS
JIM BOEHEIM, a native of Lyons, New York, has led the Syracuse Orangemen since 1976, amassing over 650 wins including a victory over Kansas in the 2003 NCAA Championship game, eight Big East regular season championships, three Big East Tournament titles, 23 NCAA Tournament appearances, four NIT invitations and three Final Four appearances (1987, 1996, 2003). By Sam Amico / The Amico Report THE NEW FACE OF JAZZ
Will the Utah Jazz even bother to field a team this year?
Sometimes, you really have to wonder.
No Karl Malone, no John Stockton ... heck, even shooting guard Calbert Cheaney is expected to sign elsewhere before the season begins.
All that's left are Matt Harpring, Andrei Kirilenko, and a bunch of guys you've never heard of.
Don't get me wrong, Harpring and Kirilenko are two up-and-coming young players but they're not exactly Stockton and Malone. Starskey and Hutch would be more like it, as Harpring and Kirilenko sort of resemble the characters from that 1970s TV hit.
But other than those two, who's gonna score, rebound, or defend for the Jazz this season? More importantly, who will run the offense and keep everything under control now that Stockton has retired? Maurice Williams? Nothing against the rookie out of Alabama, but I don't think so.
The Jazz's other top players? Try Greg Ostertag, DeShawn Stevenson, Keon Clark, and Jarron (Don't Call Me Jason) Collins. Sounds like one heck of a second unit. Problem is, most of those guys will have to start.

Baylor's 84-62 thrashing of Michigan State in the NCAA women's Championship Game Tuesday was astounding in so many ways. There was Sophie Young's effortless brilliance, the all-American from St. Vincent, West Indies, scoring 26 points, 18 in the second half, and grabbing nine rebounds to cap a season in which she was in double figures in every game and posted 17 double doubles. This is a 21-year-old who didn't play basketball until she was 15. There was Emily Niemann coming off the bench early to nail five of seven first-half 3-pointers some of them from NBA range to lead the Bears, who had started the game with three quick turnovers, to a 19-point lead. There were the Spartans, a No. 1 seed and the comeback kids of this Tournament, unable to mount one of their furious rallies like the one that had toppled Tennessee in the semifinal Sunday, getting no closer than nine and looking overmatched all night.
