European Car Damon Stoudamire :: Still Standing Damon Stoudamire :: Still Standing By Michael Weinreb The cars arent really his thing anymore. Hes still got eight or nine of them, and yeah, thats far more than any man should ever need, but the truth is, he used to buy the cars just because he could. He used to buy cars because he was young and rich and it seemed like as good a hobby as any. But Damon Stoudamire is 31 years old now, and at some point he outgrew the notion of collecting things for the sake of collecting them. So now his hobbies lie in stocks, in money management, in meeting with his accountant and building a portfolio, because one thing hes learned, after nine years in the League, is that you never know what might happen next. So here is where we catch up with Damon Stoudamire, at one of those moments in which he has no idea what happens next. In late September, we reached him on his cell in Houston, where he spends most of his summers. His name was being floated in Jason Kidd trade rumors, and he was preparing for a preseason training camp where the undersized point guard of the future, rookie Sebastian Telfair, will begin his quest to steal a job from the undersized point guard of the previous generation. Its the seventh and final year of Stoudamires contract in Portland, and whether the Trail Blazers will jettison him and decide to start the whole rebuilding thing from scratch, he has no idea. Do they want him to stay? Does he want to stay? He has no idea. | |
