Nov. 22, 2004 CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The University of Virginia women's basketball team has received five National Letters of Intent during the early signing period, head coach Debbie Ryan announced on Monday. Lindsay Hayward (Rocklin, Calif.), Lyndra Littles (Washington, D.C.), Britnee Millner (Martinsville, Va.), Abby Robertson (Springfield, Va.), and Enonge Stovall (Philadelphia, Pa.) will attend UVa and play basketball for the Cavaliers next season. "Lindsay is a 6-9 post player from the Sacramento area," Ryan said. "The first thing that strikes you is how tall she is. She finishes well around the basket and also steps out into the 15-foot range to score. Lindsay will obviously alter a lot of shots during her career." "Lyndra is a post who's a little undersized, but she's extremely athletic," Ryan said. "She's a powerful player who has rebounding skills like (former Cavalier) Wendy Palmer and ball skills like a guard."

Save a personal copy of this article and quickly find it again with Furl.net. It's free! Save it. In the morning, he was a backup shooting guard. By the afternoon, he had become, in a sense, Jacque Vaughn. It was one eventful day for Kansas sophomore Ryan Robertson. "You could say that," Robertson says. Vaughn, the Jayhawks' All-American point guard, was loose on a fast break in a pickup game last week when he found himself in tighter company than expected. He leaped into the air for a layup and was bumped as Billy Thomas tried to block his shot, then Vaughn lost his balance and fell backward to the court. Instinctively, he reached back to break his fall. Instead, he nearly broke his wrist.

The Cedarcrest boys' varsity basketball team went to 1-7 on the season after suffering a 66-51 loss to the Lynnwood Royals. After splitting a pair of games in the inaugural Cedarcrest Christmas tournament, the Royals took advantage of superior height, quickness, and shooting accuracy to establish an early 10-point lead, which they never surrendered.
Coach Les Collins "went young" for the first time this season. He started his four sophomores, B.J. Coy, Brent Robertson, Ryan Price, and Matt Heuberger, who, together with junior Mason Lund, got off to the traditional slow start. The sophomores trailed 15-2 with 2:30 remaining in the 1st quarter.
Enter the junior contingent of Jim Coma, Mark Haug and Eric Irion who played their best two minutes of the season. Cedarcrest trailed 17-6 at the end of the first quarter.
With 3:00 left before half, the Wolves leading scorer and floor general, B.J. Coy, picked up his third foul and came to the bench with the team down 25-15. Fortunately, Lund ran off seven straight points. A rebound tip-in by Ryan Price closed the gap to 33-24 at the intermission.
Coach Collins noted after the game that, "We're just not as quick as the teams we've met from our league. I guessed initially that it would take ten or so games for us to get up to speed with the competition this year, and that seems about right."
