"We bought the book for our son so he can teach his son the right way to play basketball. Thank you!” – Donna Maxie, Crothersville, Indiana
"I never saw any player in any sport master their game like Oscar did basketball. Since I’m going to teach my boy (age 5) the game, I think it would be wise to [have] some instructions myself from the best player I’ve ever seen, past or present.”
"Your book really helped to spark my sons’ interest in practicing and working to improve… I can see now that the advice you give will be a huge help to them."

"I learned to play basketball off of Oscar’s first book [ Play Better Basketball ]. When I saw he came out with a new one I purchased it so that my children can improve their skills from Oscar just as I did… when it comes to teaching fundamentals, there’s no one better than Oscar Robertson."
"I was touched by your references to the importance of a healthy lifestyle to achieve one’s goals. Your message to female students who aspire to be athletes was inspirational. I am sure that Milwaukee’s youth… will benefit from your gracious spirit…"

Career Statistics
Oscar Robertson, the "Big O," is the player against whom all others labeled "all-around" are judged, and he may remain the standard forever. "The Big O" Oscar Robertson is recognized as one of the game's most versatile players of all-time. Statistically, one need look no further than the numbers Robertson put up in 1961-62, just his second year in the league: 30.8 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 11.4 assists per game-an average of a triple-double for an entire season. Not even Magic Johnson or Larry Bird could match those numbers. During his 14-year NBA career with the Cincinnati Royals and the Milwaukee Bucks, Robertson became the top-scoring guard of all time, amassing 26,710 points. Among all players, only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, Elvin Hayes, Moses Malone and Michael Jordan have scored more. His average of 25.7 points per game is the seventh-highest mark ever, and he averaged 30 points or more in six seasons. Although John Stockton and Magic Johnson have surpassed Robertson's career record of 9,887 assists, some argue that Robertson's total came in an era when an assist was credited much less generously than it is today. Robertson also averaged 7.5 rebounds for his career and led his team in rebounding once, a rare feat for a guard.

NBA Statistics Other Resources Boston Celtics' coach Red Auerbach summed up Robertson: "He's so great he scares me. He can beat you all by himself and usually does." And "Phog" Allen, a college coach for 46 years, said, "Oscar Robertson is the greatest player of all time for a fellow his size." His size was 6-foot-5 and he weighed 220 pounds in his prime, yet he was a guard. After leading Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis to 45 straight wins and two state championships, Robertson entered the University of Cincinnati in 1956. He became the first sophomore to lead the nation in scoring and the first player to be the scoring leader three times. An All-American in 1958, 1959, and 1960, Robertson averaged 33.8 points and 15.2 rebounds a game during his college career. He scored 56 points in a 1958 game to set a Madison Square Garden record and 62 in a 1960 game to set an NCAA record. After his senior year, he starred for the gold medal U. S. Olympic team and then joined the Cincinnati Royals. His impact was immediate. The Royals improved from 14 victories to 33 and their home attendance more than tripled, from 58,244 to 207,020. Robertson led the NBA in assists, finished third in scoring, and was named the rookie of the year.
