BACKGROUND
Standing 7-3 and hailing from Yugoslavia, Alek Radojevic has taken an unusual journey to the NBA. Originally slated to play college ball at Ohio State, he instead ended up taking the road less traveled and attended Barton Community College but nevertheless still caught the eye of NBA scouts and was drafted by the Toronto Raptors with the 12th overall selection in the 1999 NBA Draft.

Coach Jim O'Brien deserves second chance
By Dick Vitale SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM
Feb. 24, 2005 I know many of you will say that I can't be serious about this, but I am ... if I were an athletic director looking for a quality leader on the sidelines, one guy I would consider is former Ohio State coach Jim O'Brien. Yes, I know he made a big mistake that got the university in trouble. What he did was wrong, even though he used his heart to help a player instead of using his head. Jim O'Brien led Ohio State to the 1999 Final Four. He also coached at Boston College. O'Brien coached at Ohio State for six years and led the Buckeyes to the Final Four in 1999, where they lost to eventual national champion Connecticut. Look back at his success as the coach at Boston College for 11 years, and even back to his playing days. O'Brien is a quality individual. He has been away from the sidelines for almost a full season now, and he deserves another opportunity.

O - Hi - O No
The other day, when word came out that Ohio State had abruptly fired head basketball coach Jim O'Brien, I said that there was more to the story than what had come out so far. The word at the time was that O'Brien had given some money to a desperate recruit, but that the recruit had never actually gone to Ohio State. Sounds bad, but not necessarily something you fire someone over immediately. Well, there was more to the story. It turns out the the story involves not only paying that player, Aleksandar Radojevic, over $6,000. It also includes allegations of payments to another player, Slobodan Savovic, forging schoolwork, changing grades and illegal contacts with agents. SI.com has a pretty good rundown of the sordid affair, as does espn.com As for the guy they paid, Radojevic, O'Brien's attorney implied that he didn't choose to attend Ohio State, so the money was really irrelevant. Well, that's not exactly accurate. In fact, Radojevic signed with the Buckeyes, but was ruled ineligible by the NCAA for playing pro ball in Yugoslavia. I guess he was playing pro ball in the states too. Radojevic was no slouch, as he was later picked #12 in the NBA draft. Some of the really interesting parts of the details are how much they tried to hide the money trail. An assistant coach, Paul Biancardi, arranged via some boosters, Dan and Kim Roslovic, to have Savovic taken care of (wink, wink) by a friend of theirs. The money flowed indirectly through the coach to Savovic via the third party, Kathleen Salyers, through different means, including a scheme where she'd write checks at a gas station for way more than the price of her tank and get cash back.

Okay, compare this country to ANY other country. Make it as difficult as you like... pick... Canada! In Canada, dogs have to learn English before they can sit in a college classroom:
    Guide dog flunks language test
    WebPosted Jul 6 2004 03:06 PM EDT
FREDERICTON — A guide dog is in the middle of a dispute between a man who wants to study English and the University of New Brunswick.
Yvon Tessier was turned away from an English immersion course because his guide dog only understands French.
Pavot is a black labrador retriever who has guided Tessier for two years. He responds to French commands, and doesn't understand any other spoken language.
Tessier came to Fredericton from Ottawa to study English in an intensive five-week course at the University of New Brunswick.
But university officials wouldn't let him, or his French dog, into the course. "I'm really disappointed and hurt," Tessier says.
