The Heat also get guard Jason Williams and forward James Posey from Memphis, while the Grizzlies receive guard Eddie Jones from Miami. The 6ft 9in Walker averaged 19.1 points and nine rebounds a game last season. He has signed a six-year $53m deal and will team up with Shaquille O'Neal, the NBA's most dominant big man. Heat president Pat Riley said: "We feel like with this trade we traded a lot, but we got back three quality players. "Antoine Walker is one of the very best, multi-faceted, versatile players in this game." Jones started all 80 games played with Miami last season, averaging 12.7 points and a career-high 5.1 rebounds.

okies... there are a coupla things i wanna make very clear...
I am gonna be ranting.. and I am gonna be breaking down a few of these articles very deliberately to make my point :)
you have been fore-warned...
Despite sending 12 highly talented individuals to Athens emphasis on individuals the once-mighty American team settled for the bronze. The descent began with a humiliating loss to a U.S. territory ('scuse me ... commonwealth) and, adding insult to injury, was capped by a semifinal loss to a team with three NBA players and several Fabio impersonators.
First, let's dispel two popular myths about the American squad: They didn't care and they didn't know how to share the ball. The guys who didn't care were the ones who chose to stay in the States. As for not sharing the ball, the U.S. led all teams in assists at these Olympics by a wide margin.
2 issues very apparent... first is the lack of respect to the argies... argentina beat the USA fair and square and the fabio impersonators comment was really un-needed...

In 1946, the Toronto Huskies were the first professional basketball team in Canada. The team was a member of the Basketball Association of America, the predecessor of the NBA. In 1995, the NBA expanded north with two new teams, the Toronto Raptors and the Vancouver Grizzlies. The Vancouver Grizzlies locked up Brian Winters to be their first head coach. Winters was a long time assistant under Lenny Wilkens, the NBA's all-time winningest coach. The inaugural pick of the Grizzlies was the seven-foot center out of Oklahoma State, Bryant Reeves, aptly referred to as "Big Country." Related Links

For use in the season beginning in November, 2004. The new 2005-06 player list will be uploaded right around September 16th, 2005.
The first column on the player lists is that player's Scoresheet player number. The second number is the total Scoresheet points they scored last season, the third number is their points per 40 minutes played, next is their shooting points per 40 minutes, then rebounding per 40, play-making points per 40 minutes, then defensive points per 40, then age as of opening day. Also shown is that player's team (as of 9/23/04). Players with a dash (-) after their name were unsigned as of 9/23/04, and in that case the team shown is the last team they were with. The (1) after some players means they were a first round pick in last June's NBA draft. Create ranking list: There is now a feature on our web site that allows you to create your ranking list by simply clicking on player's names. You can also edit that ranking list by cutting and pasting, can save it to work on later, and can e-mail your list straight to us from the web page. Your single stage draft list should have up to 250 players on it. (You can list less and if your list runs out we will draft remaining players for your team based on whomever had the most points last year.)

    Broad Street Beefcakes
I’m all for equality, but there are times when our society crossed the line. I believe the qualified people should be given a chance for a job but the idea of an all male cheerleading team is idiotic!  The Philadelphia Daily News is reporting that the 76ers are holding tryouts for an all-male dance team called the Broad Street Beefcakes. Who in their right mind would want to witness this? People go to NBA games to watch basketball, not to see men dance around the court. Hot female cheerleaders are a nice distraction, but no one wants to see men in spandex! Posted by basketballramblings at in Link
    Dedication or Insanity?
I was reading through the Arizona Republic online and came across a shocking story. A Australian Rules Football player named Brett Backwell had his finger removed to improve his ability to handle the ball. “It's not something that's been done lightly, and to chop a finger off, that's a bit drastic," Backwell told the Australian Broadcasting Company. "But I love my footy, and love playing sport, and if that's going to help me to succeed at this level then it's something you've just got to do." Can you imagine a NBA player doing something drastic like this? There’s a fine line between doing the best to compete at a high level and crossing an unsaid line and being obsessed... Backwell managed to cross that line.

    Fantasy Basketball Preview
    A week-to-week hoops handicapping
By Victor Hu Published: Thursday, November 4, 2004 Another year, another NBA season. Though the season-opening games on Tuesday were overshadowed by the presidential election, every 82-game Shaq-and-Kobe-lovefest carries with it a hidden gem: a new fantasy basketball year. Many fans criticize NBA as the least interesting of the major three fantasy sports. While basketball lacks the inherent statistical and quantitative nature of baseball and the overwhelming popularity of football, fantasy NBA does have one thing going for it: simplicity. Football requires weekly updates, baseball often requires daily attention, but basketball can just be left alone for most of the year. Basketball is marked by least amount of fluctuation throughout the season and thus, fantasy NBA represents the easiest fantasy sport to pick up and maintain. For busy college students who just finished managing ten fantasy baseball teams, this is no small relief.
The flip side to this simplicity can be reflected in the importance of the draft at the beginning of the year. Since impactful player changes come rarely during the season, the initial selection of players proves to be critical. The skill comes from predicting which players will maintain their levels of success from previous years and identifying which players are primed for a breakout year. This year's draft is especially difficult to analyze for two reasons. First, an inordinate amount of offseason movement altered the makeup of most teams and created ambiguities in determining the new roles of affected players. Also, a large number of players broke out last year, creating uncertainty about whether they will see continued success or face slumps in the 2004-05 season (see Andrei Kirilenko, LeBron James, Samuel Dalembert, Joe Johnson, James Posey, Kirk Hinrich, Dwyane Wade, etc.)
