Finally, Pippen ready to retire today
October 5, 2004 BY LACY J. BANKS Staff Reporter As the Sun-Times first reported, Scottie Pippen will end two years of speculation, false alarms and his own indecision about finishing his spectacular career this morning when he announces his retirement after the Bulls' practice at the Berto Center. ''He chose [today] because he did not want to take away from [Monday's] media day,'' a Bulls spokesman said. ''He was even thinking about just issuing a press release about his retirement. But he decided to make his announcement in person to the media.'' Operations chief John Paxson, Pippen's teammate for seven years, called Pippen's yielding the spotlight to the rest of the team a ''classy'' gesture. ''I've always respected Scottie as a player,'' Paxson said. ''He's been hammered for some of the things he did. But those are easy things for people to focus on. ''A lot of guys who played with him say he was their favorite teammate or one of the top two. I'm still convinced that my bringing him back last year was the right thing to do. I just didn't feel that our veteran guys bought into what Scottie was all about.''

Scottie Pippen:
Overrated when he was a Bull.
Lets look at the most prominent accolades that Scottie Pippen has received: 1990: Scottie Pippen chosen to "Dream Team 1".
SI reported: Scottie Pippen had played one All-Star Calibur season when he was chosen to be on the first U.S. Olympic Men's basketball team that included NBA players. He was chosen ahead of Isiah Thomas who at the time had just led the Detroit Pistons to two NBA Championships and was beginning to wind down his Hall of Fame career. Some mentioned that Pippen may have benefited from the Jordan revenge on Thomas for the alleged "Freeze out" in the 1985 NBA All-Star Game. The real Freeze out in that game was when "Iceman" George Gervin torched Jordan and the East for 23 points. Pippen belonged on Dream Team 2, not the original Dream Team, his stardom was not fully established when he was selected for Dream Team 1. 1991 Scottie "Shut Down" Magic Johnson in the 1991 NBA Finals.

104. All Star Greats
Magic Johnson absolutely loved the game of basketball. With teammates scottie pippen, Dennis Rodman, and Luke Longly, they created an unstoppable team.

All-Star Great and their Teams Kareem Abdul - Jabbar : Kareem played for the Los Angeles Lakers and was the NBA's all-time leading scorer, a six-time MVP, and the most complete center basketball has ever seen. The sky hook was his trademark and it was the greatest offensive weapon in the history of sports. Kareem played pro basketball for 20 years. By the time he retired in 1989 at age 42, he was honored in every NBA city. Charles Barkley : Many people have said that you may love Barkley or you may hate Barkley, but you can't ignore Barkley. They are right. Charles Barkley played for the Phoenix Suns and Houston Rockets. Now he plays for the Houston Rockets. He was the leading scorer on both the 1992 and 1996 U.S. Olympic dream team. He stands at 6-foot 6-inches tall and weights 252 pounds. All that would make it impossible to ignore him, don't you think? Larry Bird : Although he has retired, Larry Bird is still remembered as one of the Greats. In fact, it has been said that there will never be another Larry Bird. While playing for the Celtics, Bird became known as "The Hick from the French Lick", because he was country boy with a Midwest accent and always kept a calm attitude about life - at least off the court. Once he got on the court, his competitive side came out and he showed a strong desire to win that matched his skills. Bird was one of the original Dream Team players and won a gold medal at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. Wilt Chamberlain : Wilt Chamberlain was a strong force in the NBA. He played with the Warriors and Lakers. In one game against the New York Nicks, he even scored 100 points. That caused him to beat his own record of 78 points! Although Chamberlain was 7'1 and weighted 275 pounds, that is not what he is remembered for. Instead we remember him for never fouling out in any of his 1,045 games! Not a bad thing to be remembered for.
