From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Reggie Miller Reginald Wayne Miller (born August 24 in Riverside, California ) was a US professional basketball player. He was born with leg deformities which would ultimately lead to Reggie not being able to walk properly. After a few years of wearing leg braces on both legs all the time, he eventually built his leg strength up so that he could walk. His sister, Cheryl , is also a basketball player who has played collegiate basketball, and she has also been inducted into the basketball hall of fame. Reggie attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and was selected by the Indiana Pacers with the 11th pick in the 1st round of the NBA Draft, where he remained until his retirement in 2005. His number while playing on the Pacers was number thirty-one. Reggie was known for his precision in three-point field goal shooting, especially in clutch situations. In fact, he holds the NBA 3-point field goal record, with 2,560 career 3-pointers. Reggie Miller became a household name during the Eastern Conference Finals against the New York Knicks due to his phenomenal shooting performances in the clutch particularly in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals on June 1 , in which he scored 39 points, 25 of which came in the fourth quarter of the Pacers' 93-86 victory at Madison Square Garden. The win gave the Pacers a 3-2 series lead over the heavily favored Knicks, but the Pacers ended up losing the next two games and the series.

Miller time for Hamilton?
Piston patterned game after Pacer
May 12, 2005 AUBURN HILLS, Mich. If the Celtics had advanced to Eastern Conference semifinals against the Pistons, Boston coach Doc Rivers could have kept at least one part of his game plan the same. Playing Indiana shooting guard Reggie Miller is a lot like playing Detroit shooting guard Richard Hamilton. They run and run off screens and through picks. They rely on an impressive array of tricks. They hit big shots and frustrate defenders (just ask Tony Allen). ADVERTISEMENT Miller actually called Hamilton "mini-me," the highest compliment the retiring 39-year-old could offer. But while Hamilton may be a mirror image of Miller, Detroit's 27-year-old leading scorer has the advantage of youth. In Game 1 Monday, Hamilton ran Miller ragged while scoring 28 points. Witnessing that, Indiana coach Rick Carlisle likely considered some defensive changes for last night's Game 2. And Stephen Jackson made it known he was ready for the challenge of guarding Hamilton after tailing Tayshaun Prince in the series opener. In any event, whoever draws the Hamilton assignment for the rest of the second round will have long nights.

Guard helps Indiana slow tempo
April 26, 2005 After being squashed like bugs in Game 1, Reggie Miller said, it would be imperative to avoid "windshield-wiper games" if the Indiana Pacers had any shot in this series against the Celtics. ADVERTISEMENT You know, those games where the pace of the action is back and forth. In Game 2 last night, Indiana controlled the tempo and rebounded from Saturday night's humiliating effort with an 82-79 victory at the FleetCenter. The Pacers not only evened the series, 1-1, but they wrested the home-court advantage away as the series shifts to Indiana Thursday. "Each game is going to take a life of its own," said Miller, who led the Pacers with 28 points on 9-for-18 shooting to make up for his 7-point effort (1-for-7 shooting) in Game 1. "I'm very encouraged with the way we played tonight, for the most part. We had our lulls, but the tempo was set just right for us. We didn't get into a windshield-wiper game like we did in Game 1. And we executed down the stretch, which was really big for us." The Pacers, who twice led by 11 points in the first quarter, erased a 75-68 fourth-quarter deficit. They tied it, 78-78, on Stephen Jackson's baseline dunk and then surged to an 82-79 lead on Anthony Johnson's hoop in the lane with 1:09 to go and Miller's running jumper with 37.1 seconds left. The latter was a backbreaker, silencing the sellout crowd of 18,624 who taunted the retiring 39-year-old guard with chants of "Reg-gie! Reg-gie! Reg-gie!"

The Pacers' Reggie Miller will be remembered as one of the greatest sharp-shooters in NBA history. (AP FILE PHOTO) When the Indiana Pacers selected Reggie Miller with the 11th pick in the 1987 NBA draft, Pacers fans roundly jeered the choice. Eighteen years, more than 25,000 points and 2,500 three-pointers later, Miller left the court at Indiana's Conseco Fieldhouse for the final time to a standing ovation, the most popular player in team history. RELATED: Reggie Miller bio On Thursday night, the Pacers lost to the Detroit Pistons 88-79 in Game 6 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series. The loss ended both Indiana's season and the illustrious career of Miller, who announced in February that he would retire at season's end. The rail-thin shooting guard, who played only for the Pacers, finished his career with a franchise-record 25,279 points, 12th-best in NBA history.

Spike and Reggie. Reggie Miller is great. Reggie Miller is clutch. Reggie Miller kills the New York Knicks . Lucky for me, I don't like The Knicks or professional basketball for that matter. Sure, Reggie is old and past his prime, but last night, Reggie and the Indiana Pacers came into The Garden and dropped 31 points and 3 straight 3-pointers to down the pitiful Knicks (let the chants of, "Fire Layden!" begin). Of course, every Knicks fan remembers Reggie's masterful performances at The Garden. 1994 - 25 points in the 4th quarter. 1995 - 8 points in 8.9 seconds. 1998 - A series-turning three in front of Spike Lee. 2000 - 17 points in the 4th quarter to finish off The Knicks and advance to the NBA Finals. Regie may be old, but Regie can still kill The Knicks, which works out just fine for me. AP game recap on ESPN Posted by tien mao in Sports at November 16, 2003 11:08 AM

Saying Goodbye to Reggie Miller
Last night was a bittersweet one for me as a basketball fan. Yes, the Pistons beat Indiana to advance to the conference finals. But they did it by ending the career of one of my favorite players, Reggie Miller. Miller was the guy you loved to hate and then came to love out of sheer respect for his talent and his will. He was brash and bold. He talked smack on the court, but then he backed it up. And has there ever been a better clutch shooter than Reggie? I think the game against the Knicks in Madison Square Garden, in the playoffs, scoring 8 points in 9 seconds to keep his team alive, answered that question. The end of the game is what separates great talents from great players. There are athletes with all the talent in the world who treat the ball like a live grenade when the pressure is on. Chris Webber is 6'10" with the body of a greek god and more athletic talent than practically anyone else in the NBA at his size, but you couldn't pay him to take the last shot (though teams keep paying him millions despite his tendency to implode under pressure). Reggie was a guy who thrived on pressure, who loved having the ball in his hands at the end of the game with the score tied - and especially on the road, with 30,000 fans hating you simultaneously. He lived for it. And most of the time, he hit the shot that killed you.
Over the course of an 18 year career, he went from being one of the most hated players in the league to one of the most beloved and respected. He went from being a spastic, gangly beanpole with ears that looked like they were drawn on by a cartoonist to being a symbol of all the things that are right in professional sports. He never demanded a trade or held out for a bigger contract. He spent his entire career with a small market team. He graciously accepted a diminished role toward the end of his career and then, when his team was decimated by injuries and suspensions and needed him more than ever, he had perhaps his finest season in his last.

I cried like a baby. Tears are welling in my eyes as I write this. Reggie Miller is the best pure shooter basketball has ever seen. Better than Larry Bird. And Miller is clutch. Reggie Miller retires as king of NBA dramatics
By Dick Vitale SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM
May 20, 2005 "Reggie, Reggie, Reggie!" Yes, that cheer came through loud and clear in a dramatic moment at the end of Thursday night's Pacers Pistons game. Reggie Miller 's brilliant 18-year NBA career came to an end as his Pacers were eliminated in six games by defending champion Detroit. Miller Miller, 39, averaged more than 18 points per game during the Pacers' push to make the playoffs. The 6-foot-7 shooting guard turned back the clock and helped his team advance to the Eastern Conference semifinals to face Detroit. The bottom line is that coach Larry Brown and his Pistons were too much for Indiana. Brown and his team also were extremely classy in applauding Miller at the end of Game 6, along with the crowd at Conseco Fieldhouse. I wish some other stars had played with that kind of passion and emotion. You could always feel Miller's love for the game in every movement on the court.

Reggie Miller tried But where do we now look for our next hero? Steve Hammer "I tried,” Reggie Miller said last Thursday evening. After his brilliant career, full of triumph, defeat and dedication, that’s really all he could say. He tried to bring Indianapolis a championship, failing to realize the city is cursed in that regard.
But he tried. How can there be Indiana basketball without Reggie Miller? The Detroit Pistons were just better than the beleagured Pacers, in just about every conceivable way. The Pacers’ attempt to wreak revenge for the Nov. 19, 2004, brawl fell short and now their year is over. But Reggie tried.
