Antonio Keithflen McDyess (born September 7 , in Quitman, Mississippi ) is a basketball player in the NBA , currently a reserve power forward for the Detroit Pistons McDyess played college basketball at the University of Alabama . In he was drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers as the second pick in the NBA Draft and was traded to the Denver Nuggets before the season began. Except for two brief stints with the Phoenix Suns and the New York Knicks , McDyess played for the Nuggets until the Pistons signed him prior to their season. He was also part of the gold-winning Dream Team III at the 2000 Summer Olympics During his time with the Nuggets, McDyess averaged at or near a double-double and had at least one block per game. After months of uncertainty regarding the health and future of Antonio McDyess, the Knicks have finally received encouraging news about their injured power forward. A CAT scan taken last week revealed that McDyess' surgically repaired left knee is 90% healed, according to a person close to McDyess. The same source added that McDyess expects to be given clearance to begin practicing by the end of the month and that he could start the regular season on the active roster. The Knicks have declined to give a timetable for McDyess, which has fueled speculation that he would not return until January. Yesterday, the team would neither confirm nor deny the results of the CAT scan, maintaining its policy not to give medical updates on its players. However, Knicks spokesman Joe Favorito admitted that the organization would provide information regarding McDyess' status "later in September."

Instead of wondering whether Antonio McDyess can start tonight at home against the Nuggets, Don Chaney must worry about whether the power forward will even be available. The latest Knick headache occurred yesterday during practice in Greenburgh, when McDyess' surgically repaired left knee became inflamed. "Today his knee's sore," Chaney said afterward. "I'll speak to him (today), see how he feels. And not just whether he starts or comes off (the bench), but whether he plays. "He did a lot of individual work, but when we were scheduled to go up and down (the court), he couldn't do it. He was limping all over the place." McDyess, however, barely made reference to any pain when he spoke to reporters. "It did well," he said, when asked how his knee held up during the Knicks' recent 0-5 road trip out West. "I was surprised, especially on the back-to-back games (last Tuesday and Wednesday). It really did well. I didn't expect it to be this sore."
