Career Statistics Other Resources The 6-foot-6, 220-pound Jackson was an All-American guard as a junior at Ohio State University in 1992, when he was named college player of the year by United Press International. Jackson averaged 22.4 points that season and 19.2 for his three-year career. He then left school to enter the NBA draft and was chosen by the Dallas Mavericks in the first round. He held out for most of his rookie season, finally joining the team in March of 1993 and averaging 16.3 points in 28 games. Dallas sent him to the New Jersey Nets in a nine-player trade during the the 1996-97 season. That began an odyssey that has seen Jackson play for nine different teams in the span of seven seasons. He joined his ninth team, the Sacramento Kings, as a free agent at the beginning of the 2002-03 season. Jackson's best season, statistically, was 1994-95, when he averaged 25.7 points a game, fifth in the NBA and first among non-centers. However, an ankle injury in February cut that season short. Because of his size, Jackson has been a swing man for much of his NBA career, playing small forward as well as shooting guard.

Future of minority greek community looks bleak as recruiting significantly declines
By Christine Show Published: Tuesday, March 30, 2004 When Craig Wilson counts the number of new members in his fraternity this semester, he doesn't need a calculator.
"We have none," said Wilson, the president of Omega Psi Phi fraternity and a junior political science major.
Omega Psi Phi is one of the seven predominantly black greek organizations in the National Pan-Hellenic Council, which has seen significantly smaller numbers of new members each semester, Wilson said.
In addition to the NPHC, the Latino Greek Council and the Multicultural Greek-Letter Council have had a new member intake ranging from zero to nine members. This is a considerable difference compared to pledge classes in the Interfraternity and Panhellenic councils, which include the more mainstream fraternities and sororities. IFC and Panhel pledge classes can consist over 40 members.
"Everyone in NPHC is having a problem. The entire male NPHC doesn't equal an IFC or Panhel organization," Wilson said.

SU cornerback Jackson stabbed outside Schine
By Michael Becker Published: Tuesday, September 28, 2004 Tanard Jackson, the Syracuse football team's starting cornerback, was stabbed in the upper left side of his chest at about 2 a.m. Sunday, according to a police report. Syracuse head coach Paul Pasqualoni said Jackson will likely miss Saturday's game against Rutgers. Jackson was released from the hospital yesterday, said Sgt. Tom Connellan of the Syracuse Police Department. "It's unfortunate," Pasqualoni said. "He tried to avoid what happened. In the end, he couldn't." Police reports said Jackson was stabbed after attending a party at Schine Student Center. The party was co-hosted by Phi Beta Sigma fraternity and Zeta Phi Beta sorority, said George Brobbey, president of Phi Beta Sigma. Alexis Stanley, a sophomore who attended the party, said a small scuffle broke out in Schine earlier in the night, but security stopped that altercation. Later, at 2 a.m., a fight broke out in a nearby parking lot that included 15 people, according to a police report. Pasqualoni said Jackson and three to four other men attempted to break up the fight. The men were later confronted, he said, at which point Jackson was stabbed.

Jackson Junior pitcher Jeremy Jackson of Meridian is the recipient of the SEC's H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award for 1997-98. Jackson and University of South Carolina volleyball player Shani Abshier, the SEC's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, were selected for top league honors by a committee of Faculty Athletics Representatives from the 12 SEC schools. Each athlete receives a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship. Jackson becomes the fifth Mississippi State athlete to receive the prestigious SEC Scholar-Athlete Award since 1990. Previous recipients have included Burke Masters (baseball, 1990), Aimee York (volleyball, 1993), Tammy Newlon (women's basketball, 1994), and April Ecke (cross-country, 1995). Jackson, who earned his fourth varsity letter in his third year as a starting pitcher, has posted a 22-7 overall career record at Mississippi State, and led the 1998 team with an 9-2 record (as of May 27). Jackson compiled a 9-4 record on Mississippi State's 1997 NCAA College World Series team, earning Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week honors after a career-best 15-strikeout game against top-ranked LSU. He was later selected by the New York Mets in the 1997 June draft.
