Former MT star finds religion, Rhythm
By Katy Hamlett Published: Wednesday, February 16, 2005 Most basketball players have some similar observable characteristics: towering height, athletic build, fast feet and a trait unique to Blue Raider basketball players, the ability to take vicious tongue lashings from head coach Kermit Davis without flinching.
An important characteristic for many players often concealed from the public is spirituality. But former Blue Raider and current Nashville Rhythm power forward Ali McGhee is determined to bring religion courtside in the largely secular sport.
Though McGhee is openly spiritual and honest, his formal basketball career began with deception.
McGhee dropped out of high school after his sophomore year but continued to fine-tune his basketball skills. The summer before what would have been his senior year, though he was still not attending high school, McGhee slipped into a showcase camp reserved for high school seniors seeking scholarships.

Augustana?
"I chose Augustana for a few reasons. The North Central Conference is considered athletically to be the best Division II conference in the country. Among the schools in the North Central Conference, Augustana is also the best school academically. Augie also has the advantage of being the only private school in the conference. You can't find many schools that challenge you both academically and athletically at the levels Augustana does. I knew that after I graduated, Augie would prepare me the most for the real world." Q: This year is not only your first at Augustana, it's Coach Billeter's first as well. How has the new basketball coaching staff influenced your experience here at Augustana?

The British Basketball League looks to have guaranteed its long-term future after discussions saw the one-time Los Angeles Lakers star AC Green purchase a stake in the BBL with backing from a New York investment bank. There were fears that the league would have to merge with the lower-tier EBL next season after its failure to secure a regular television slot and a major sponsor during the past three seasons. However Green’s interest was heightened when he, and representatives of Synergie Capital, came to the UK on a fact-finding mission last week and visited a number of the community initiatives backed by the BBL’s eleven existing clubs. In addition to taking on an ambassadorial role, Green opted to provide a cash injection described as a “multi-million dollar” sum. And BBL chairman Vince Macaulay believes the involvement of the NBA legend can spark a revival in the sport’s fortunes which could also potentially catalyse an expansion into cities such as Edinburgh. “We have been in discussions for some time, recognising the need for investment to improve the image and profile of the British game,” he said. “We believe we have found in AC Green a partner with integrity and character, and a sporting reputation that is second to none."

History and Reputation
Leicester is now a thriving commercial centre but its origins date back to pre-Roman times. The settlement was developed by the Romans, and the Jewry Wall and its museum trace this history. Not far from this site is the castle, remnants of the town wall, and the Newarke Houses Museum which explore the social aspects of Leicester's past. Nearer to the city centre is the cathedral and the medieval Guildhall. On New Walk, the eighteenth century walkway from the city centre to Victoria Park, you will find the New Walk Museum and Art Gallery.
