NBA Career statistics After starring for two seasons at Southern Illinois University, Frazier had to sit out his junior year because he was academically ineligible. He returned to lead the team to the 1967 National Invitation Tournament championship. He was the tournament's most valuable player and was named to the Division II All-American team. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound guard was the first-round draft choice of the New York Knicks. Although best known as an outstanding defensive player, Frazier averaged 21.7 points a game in 1970/71 to become the first guard ever to lead the team in scoring. The Knicks won two NBA championships, in 1970 and 1973, during Frazier's ten seasons with the team. He tied an NBA playoff record with 19 assists in the 1970 championship game against the Los Angeles Lakers. A snappy dresser, he was nicknamed "Clyde" by teammate Nate Bowman early in his career because he was wearing a derby hat that reminded Bowman of Warren Beatty as Clyde Barrow in the movie Bonnie and Clyde. The nickname was often lengthened to "Clyde the Glide" because of his smooth style of play. Frazier was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1977 and he spent two seasons there before retiring. He was a first-team All-Star four times and was named to the NBA's all-defensive first team seven years in a row, from 1969 through 1975.

He played for 10 seasons (1968-1977) with the New York Knicks, was voted to the NBA All-Star and All-Star defensive teams for seven straight years and was the All-Star team's MVP in 1975. Known for his distinctive style on and off the court, "Cool Clyde" is best remembered for his performance on the 1970 and 1973 Knicks championship teams. Frazier officially retired in 1979, and was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts, on May 5, 1987. These days, Frazier is using his celebrity for a good cause and one with a personal investment. He's going to raise money for his own charity, the Walt Frazier Youth Foundation, which helps students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds gain experience in the workforce. Men can help Frazier in one of two ways. Frazier will be onsite at the Hoop-It-Up finals in New York on September 21 and will host the Just For Men Haircolor "Play Away the Gray" Three-Point Shoot-Out, open to men of all ages. For every basket made during the Shoot-Out, Walt will donate $5 to the Walt Frazier Youth Foundation. Men also can color away their gray hair onsite to help Frazier raise funds for his charity. Walt Frazier, or "Clyde," as many of his colleagues and fans came to know him, is one of the best professional basketball players from the late 1960s and early '70s. Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, Frazier left his hometown for the opportunity to play basketball at Southern Illinois University, where he led the team to the 1967 National Invitation Tournament championship. He was named the tournament's most valuable player and was also named to the Division II All-American team.
That same year, Frazier was the first-round draft choice for the New York Knicks and became the first guard ever to lead the team in scoring. Just three seasons later, he helped the Knicks win their first NBA title during the last game of the series against the Los Angeles Lakers, scoring 36 points and making 19 assists. In 1973, Frazier's determination and teamwork were once again influential in securing a second NBA title for the Knicks. He was traded from the Knicks in 1977 and spent the final two seasons of his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
During his impressive NBA career, Frazier was a first-team All-Star four times and was named to the NBA's all-defensive first team seven years in a row, from 1969-1975. He scored 15,581 points and made 5,040 assists in 825 regular season games. Frazier was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1987 and named one of the NBA's 50 greatest players in 1996.

PITTSBURGH (December 19, 2002) - Basketball hall-of-famer and sports analyst, Walt Frazier, is known for his cool and flamboyant style both on and off the court. This Spring, fans and consumers alike will be able to bring home "Clyde's" legendary look, as he will become the new model for the Natural Jet Black shade of Just For Men Mustache, Beard and Sideburn Brush-In Color Gel. Why Walt?
Walt Frazier’s sense of style and popularity among 35- to 64-year-old men made him a perfect pick to pose for the new box. “Mr. Frazier is not only one of the most successful basketball players of all-time, he is also a man that has prided himself on always looking good, staying fit and remaining youthful,” said Michael Wendroff, vice president of haircare marketing, Combe, Incorporated. “We hope that by using his image on our box, we can convince others to join the growing throng of men now using haircolor.” "Colorful" Commentary
Frazier, a long-time user of the Just For Men Natural Jet Black Mustache, Beard and Sideburn Brush-In Color Gel, is honored to be featured on the new packaging. He is even quoted on the box, using some of his infamous rhyming: "Don't look antiquated, get rejuvenated;" "The look is realistic and using it is simplistic;" "It makes me elated…gets the gray in my beard eradicated;" and "Looks cool…keeps on making the ladies drool."

There is a period of time right after The Super Bowl and before March Madness that is pretty much the worst time of the year for the sports fan. One only needs to flip to The Madison Square Garden Network on this Tuesday night to know just why. Tonight on MSG, it’s..... Knicks – Hawks! Why on Earth would anyone ever want to waste a few hours of their life to watch this match-up of bad basketball vs. worse basketball? There is one reason and one reason only..... Walt "Clyde" Frazier.
What - is he running with lighter fluid and matches?
Clyde is also a mathematician apparently. I wonder if, when Phil Jackson comes to town with the triangle offense, if Clyde makes mention of the Pythagorean Theorem?
I hardly had time to stop laughing though before I got hit with more:

"Cool" was added because of his demeanor both on and off the court. During the ten years he spent in New York City playing with the Knickerbockers, Frazier became known for his flashy style. His wardrobe included dozens of suits, shirts, shoes, and hats, as well as a full-length mink coat. His image earned him the Esquire's Best-Dressed Jock award, and Pageant named him one of America's ten sexiest athletes. The oldest of nine children, Frazier grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. Walt Frazier developed his athletic abilities in high school there, catching for the baseball team, quarterbacking for the football team, and playing guard on the basketball team. Two universities offered him scholarships to play football, but Frazier opted to accept a basketball scholarship at the University of Southern Illinois. After three years of college. Frazier dropped out to accept a $100,000 contract with the Knicks, who picked him in the first round of the 1967 draft.
