After chronicling the Danny Fortson-Nate McMillan feud in last week's Sonic Boom , the pair have gone ahead made league-wide headlines again this week. Yes, it involved Fortson and another bout of conduct detrimental to his team. Yes, it involved another internal suspension with GM Rick Sund playing an integral role. But a few things went differently this time. First, the incident went down during an actual game, as opposed to a practice-facility blowup. This time, Danny flat-out refused to enter a game versus New York, citing that he "wasn't ready" to compete in the 109-101 OT Seattle win over the Knicks. Sensing what kind of damage this affair could have on a team ready to host an opening playoff round, team captain Ray Allen personally phoned Fortson in an attempt to remind the petulant power forward how important his individual contributions are to the overall team success. "I just told Danny what he means to this team," Allen told reporters before Sunday night's game against Washington. "Even though he may not be the leading scorer for us, I just wanted to tell him how important he was for this stretch run for us and the playoffs." | |
