Scoresheet's 2004-05 Basketball Player List
For use in the season beginning in November, 2004. The new 2005-06 player list will be uploaded right around September 16th, 2005.
The first column on the player lists is that player's Scoresheet player number. The second number is the total Scoresheet points they scored last season, the third number is their points per 40 minutes played, next is their shooting points per 40 minutes, then rebounding per 40, play-making points per 40 minutes, then defensive points per 40, then age as of opening day. Also shown is that player's team (as of 9/23/04). Players with a dash (-) after their name were unsigned as of 9/23/04, and in that case the team shown is the last team they were with. The (1) after some players means they were a first round pick in last June's NBA draft. Create ranking list: There is now a feature on our web site that allows you to create your ranking list by simply clicking on player's names. You can also edit that ranking list by cutting and pasting, can save it to work on later, and can e-mail your list straight to us from the web page. Your single stage draft list should have up to 250 players on it. (You can list less and if your list runs out we will draft remaining players for your team based on whomever had the most points last year.)

NBA Quarterly Report Here we are, just past the quarter point of the season, and already the NBA has provided its share of stories. We’ve seen two unexpected teams in the Phoenix Suns and Seattle Supersonics rise to be the crème de la crème in the NBA, and they’re doing it in an entertaining way – running, gunning, and utilizing a 5-man attack on the floor. Conversely, we’re experiencing a dreadful New Orleans Hornets team that will challenge for the worst record, if they’re current winning (or should I say losing) rate continues. We’ve seen the most out-of-control fantastical brawl in NBA history when the Indiana Pacers took on the Detroit Piston’s fans, resulting in many altercations, punches, suspensions, and yes, criminal charges. This incident has sparked renewed discussions about the nature of today’s athletes and fans, and whether Pacer’s guard Ron Artest, the central character in the melee, was justified in going after the fan. We’ve seen some fine individual performances as well. You’ve got your perennials superstars doing what they do: Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Shaquille O’Neal, Allan Iverson, and Kobe Bryant. But there is a emergence of players that are knocking on that door of the elite: Early season kudos has to be given to Steve Nash and Amare Stoudamire of the Phoenix Suns; Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis of the Seattle Supersonics; King Lebron James of Cleveland; and young Dwayne Wade of the Miami Heat. And oh yes, you cannot help but feel that something wonderful is happening with the Grant Hill revival.

Hoop Town
The Sonics are hot, and isn't that a nice surprise?
by Mike Henderson
Danny Fortson vs. Sacramento.
(Getty Images) The argument as to whether Seattle is a baseball town or a football town finally has been settled. It's a basketball town. That much might have been evident last winter, when from virtually nowhere the University of Washington men's five wound down the regular season with enough W's to make the NCAA tournament (albeit not for long). Further evidence arrived a few months later, when the Seattle Storm became the champs of the WNBA, disparaged as it is by many. (At a local bar, I overheard a road- company Jimmy Kimmel ask his buddy: "What would you like better? Finding a $20 bill on the sidewalk or having your WNBA team win a championship?") For comparison purposes, the current edition started the season against those perennial death-spiral guys known as the Los Angeles Clippers. The 30-point Sonic loss seemed to confirm the Vegas-odds wisdom that Seattle wouldn't win 32 games this season. But by mid-November, the Green Team already had logged six victories, including a last-shot walk-off against a solid Toronto team followed by a Sunday, Nov. 14, 118-113 besting of Memphis, featuring a 34-point fourth-quarter comeback. Suddenly a ticket to a Sonics game was good for something besides emergency dental floss.

Even though we haven't landed complimentary courtside seats for you and your friends, we can, at least, offer a rare glimpse at some of the restricted areas our passes have taken us. UC photo/Colleen Kelley The Bearcats' lair
The posh UC men's basketball locker room is probably best known among the general public for the time coach Bob Huggins barred his own players from using it. It was following a rough stretch in 2001 that Huggins told his players their weak effort didn't merit the privilege to dress in the same space as previous teams.
Undoubtedly, the reference included such greats as the 1992 Final-Four squad with Nick Van Excel, the 1996 Elite-Eight team with Danny Fortson and the country's No. 1 rated team in 2000 with Kenyon Martin. The motivation technique seemed to work as UC finished the '01 season with a surprising tournament run to the Sweet 16.

Second-Half Sleepers
By Daryl Shevin
RotoWire Staff Writer
If you've been watching the NBA this season, you don't need someone to tell you that Amare Stoudamire and Dwyane Wade have emerged as elite fantasy players, or that Yao Ming might forever be overrated. Most readers, we presume, are looking for something a little deeper, something that might get them an edge. To that end, we want to talk about a few guys who are currently under most owners' fantasy radar, but who have a decent shot at breaking out at some point during the season's second half. There is an unwritten rule among most fantasy hoops experts that, given the minutes, most NBA players could produce at high levels. With that in mind, I focused my search on guys who are playing in the neighborhood of 20 minutes per game and have earned the right to play more. It's no coincidence that the most common traits among these guys is that they are either young (proving their worth day by day) or play for a team which recently underwent a roster change, thus creating an opportunity.

Still smokin'
The Celtics patriarch is feisty and opinionated at 86; here's Red on roundball . . . and a few other things
By Stan Grossfeld, Globe Staff, 2/11/2004 WASHINGTON Red Auerbach is happy. Today is a good day. A bunch of friends, including journalists, Secret Service agents, and coaches are scheduled to meet him in Chinatown for his informal weekly "Tuesdays With Red" lunch. Plus, he has front-row tickets to the Georgetown-Boston College game. Auerbach is treating two of the doctors who have helped keep him amazingly sharp at 86. He has had recent stomach problems but feels better. He's even talking about hot dogs for dinner. He is happy, all right, until he sees a photographer leaning over a half-dozen cigar butts piled in his ashtray. He blows smoke. "Hey! My doctors see that picture . . ." ADVERTISEMENT But then the president of the Boston Celtics and the NBA's greatest coach softens. "You think it's important?" he says, smiling. "Aw, all right." Auerbach without a cigar is Russell without a rebound, Arnie without an Army, James Bond without a girl.
