MEN'S BASKETBALL
Visiting Brown shocks men's basketball in Ivy season opener
David Baumgarten
Princetonian Sports Editor
For half a century, when Brown arrived in Princeton to face the men's basketball team, the Bears didn't really believe they could win.
Times have changed.
"To me, that's the past," Bears senior point guard Jason Forte said afterwards, dismissing 52 straight years of losing as easily as he dropped 17 points on the stunned Tigers' heads. "I was just here for the two games we've won here. I can't account for the history." Forte wasn't the only Bear to play like he belonged. In truth, Brown (8-7 overall, 1-0 Ivy League) dominated the game by a far greater margin than the five-point final spread suggested. The Bears shot 58 percent from the field on the day, by far the highest percentage Princeton (9-6, 0-1) has allowed this year. Both teams came out of the gates firing, putting more points on the board than normally expected in a game featuring Princeton. Freshman forward Noah Savage drained two early threes for the Tigers, but Forte answered with two of his own. The second of the pair was a wide-open look, the result of a Princeton defensive breakdown that prompted an angry head coach Joe Scott '87 to take an immediate timeout. After the game, he bemoaned his team's inability to defend the three.

For everyone from general managers to players to agents to publicists, the weeks leading up to the midseason trade deadline can be among the most hectic and exciting times of the year GARRY ST. JEAN FULLY UNDERSTANDS that being a distinguished basketball mind does not always guarantee distinguished accommodations. Every year, as the mid-February trade deadline approaches, the 50-year-old Golden State Warriors general manager finds himself spending more and more time in his office, until the inevitable happens. Instead of driving home, he walks downstairs from his office atop the Warriors training facility and clambers onto a training table to catch a few hours of sleep. But he's never alonejust to make sure he doesn't miss a good trade offer, he curls up with his cell phone nearby.

Brown to stay with Hornets Posted on Sunday, July 13 @ 18:30:44 CDT by NothingButNets NothingButNets zednik writes "Free-agent forward P.J. Brown agreed to a four-year contract to stay with the New Orleans Hornets, his agent said Saturday. Brown, a 10-year veteran who led the Hornets in rebounding and ranked fourth in the league in field-goal shooting percentage last season, visited several teams, including NBA champion San Antonio, before deciding to remain with New Orleans. ``It was a tough decision, and obviously a number of teams pursued him. But he's been a big part of pro basketball coming back to New Orleans and that is something he takes very seriously,'' Brown's agent Mark Bartelstein said. A source close to the player, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told The Associated Press that the deal would be worth a little more than $8 million per season.

What asshole voted PJ Brown for MVP? Steve Nash aside... what the hell
At #6 overall in the voting, you've got a guy who couldn't get his team into the playoffs. Getting 3 votes is a guy who admitted that he didn't try in the first half of the season, and getting one vote is... PJ fucking Brown.
I like PJ Brown... good rebounder, hard worker, a player who adds a lot to a team. But the guy who gave him an MVP vote should be dragged out of his home and beaten. That really just strips all integrity away from the award itself. If you're not going to take it seriously, man, don't vote. I suspect Woody Paige.
And I don't get how someone votes for Vince Carter. He isn't the best player on his team, he isn't the most valuable Net, and he admits to loafing. An MVP vote for Shawn Kemp is just as well-spent.
Allen Iverson at #5 overall is also a little surprising. I don't think there's any way he should've been out of the Top 3. I don't want to take anything away from Dirk or Tim Duncan, who had great seasons, but Iverson was unbelievable. 3 and a half fewer assists per game than Nash, but did he make up for it with 15.2 more points per game, 1.4 more steals per game, .7 more rebounds per game, and an immesurable amount of better defense?

The NBA coaching carousel continues to spin round and round with momentum gaining by the 24 second clock.
According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Indiana Pacers assistant coach Mike Brown will be named the Cleveland Cavaliers new head coach in the next few days, joining both Maurice Cheeks in Philadelphia and Brian Hill in Orlando as the latest who have filled the gaps in NBA head coaching vacancies.
Yet this leaves a host of teams around the league that are still without front men.
The New York Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves are still in the interview process with possible candidates. The Los Angeles Lakers continue to court Phil Jackson. Seattle is in talks with Nate McMillan about his future with the team and despite his sensational season with the Sonics no agreement has been reached. And you can apparently add Detroit to this list of teams. Cleveland Plain Dealer reporter Branson Wright noted today that once the Pistons post season comes to a close (which could be sooner than later), Larry Brown will accept the offer of President of Basketball Operations in Cleveland.
Regardless if this comes to fruition or not, Brown’s health issues are the determining factor to his departure from the coaching ranks, leaving the door open for someone else draw up the X’s and O’s in Motown. Insert name here. The usual suspects are the two same names that have been linked with every possible head coaching opening: Flip Saunders-Phil Jackson.

Dartmouth Downs Brown, 66-64, in Ivy League Men's Basketball Action
    Mike McLaren
Feb. 25, 2005 Box Score HANOVER, N.H. Senior Mike McLaren (Memphis, Tenn.) and junior Mike Lang (Chicago, Ill.) each scored 18 points for Dartmouth as the Big Green held on to defeat Brown, 66-64, in Ivy League men's basketball action. Dartmouth (9-15, 6-5 Ivy) has a four-game win streak for the first time since 2001-02. The Big Green also has won four consecutive Ivy contests for the first time since 1998-99. Dartmouth senior Mike Liddy (Lake Forest, Ill.) said, "I guess you can call four wins a streak. The wins aren't always pretty, but we'll take them. Give McLaren credit tonight. He hit some big shots down the stretch, and Lang was key at the free throw line." Liddy spelled starting point guard Steve Callahan (Cincinnati, Ohio), whose playing time is limited with knee injuries. Liddy turned in five points, two assists and two rebounds in 18 minutes.
