ATLANTA (February 18, 2000) Longtime Georgia Tech head basketball coach Bobby Cremins announced his retirement from college coaching Friday afternoon, signaling an end to the most successful era in Georgia Tech basketball history. Cremins, in his 19th season at Tech and his 25th as a head coach, will step down at the end of the 1999-2000 season, in which the Jackets currently have a record of 11-13 overall and 3-8 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Georgia Tech Athletic Association decided Wednesday to buy out the remaining three years of Cremins' contract, which would have carried through the 2002-2003 season. Cremins thrust Georgia Tech into the national basketball picture with a long line of great players, beginning with Mark Price and John Salley in the early 1980's, and continued with Duane Ferrell, Tom Hammonds, Dennis Scott, Brian Oliver, Kenny Anderson, Stephon Marbury and Matt Harpring. Along the way, the 52-year-old native of the Bronx, N.Y., became the Rambling Wreck's all-time winningest coach during the 1995-96 season. His record at Georgia Tech currently is 352-233 (.602), and he moved into third place among all ACC coaches in victories earlier this season when the Yellow Jackets defeated Florida State on Jan. 19. His overall mark is 452-303 (.599) in 24-plus seasons as a head coach.

Blah, blah, blah...That's all I think when I hear many of the claims made, on both sides of the aisle, about every issue in this country, from School Choice to Iraq, and beyond. Well, this Blog is going to transcend the rhetoric and focus on facts. While I will offer my analysis and opinion, I will clearly state that. Please feel free to comment on, ridicule, praise and promote views, facts, etc on this site. Conversation is good, let's just not get personal. Just the facts please!

Thanks TRAVIS!!!
As many of you know, I am a Marquette grad and a Marquette Basketball freak. Well, today I received some of the saddest news I have received as a sports fan. Travis Diener, Marquette's star point guard, broke his left hand yesterday, and his senior season, and magical career is over.
Travis comes from an all-star basketball family including his cousins Drew and Drake, Drake Diener currently plays for Depaul, while Drew is an assistant there. Travis made Marquette basketball what it currently is, gritty and tough. I have a couple of unbelieveable memories from him, and all of them stem from overcoming adversity and exuding toughness.

The Vortex and The Dean Move On
Fri, Sep. 9 2005 - 4:00 PM by: Scott Search RaptorBlog.com Advertise here. Well, I'm back from my vacation in the Bahamas at an all-inclusive resort. I managed to put on seven pounds in five days and I hurt my shoulder while playing beach volleyball. Welcome to Geezerville, Population: Me. In catching up with Raptors news, I see that Milt Palacio was signed by the Utah Jazz and Lamond Murray was bought out and subsequently signed with the New Jersey Nets . So I'll take this time to reminisce about their tours of duty in Toronto. As it turned out, there was a lot less to Lamond than met the eye. The reason he led his team in scoring was that he was a remorseless chucker on a terrible team. We didn't even get to find this out right away since he sat out the entire 2002-03 season with an injury, but when he finally suited up the following season, I quickly branded him "The Vortex" because the ball never returned once it came into his hands. It's one thing to fire away like that if you're Peja Stojakovic, but The Vortex shot 39.6 percent from the field over his two seasons with the Raptors. Since he brought nothing else to the table besides his shooting, it's not surprising that he never saw more than occasional floor time in Toronto. He won't be missed.

Ask Tim: Travis Diener's pro prospects
I received the following question about amazing Marquette University basket-baller Travis Diener: Will Travis Diener be playing in the NBA? I hear the Cavs are trading LeBron James to move up in the draft to pick him. FREEWAY Well, first of all, I'd like to thank Freeway for taking time out of his busy schedule as an Aldi's rep to ask this question. Certainly, Diener is one of the most coveted players in this year's senior class. Unfortunately, that is because all the other good players have already gone pro. With that said, Cleveland would still be silly not to bundle Lebron James and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in a trade for whoever has the top pick in the next NBA draft. This is probably the only player/hall of fame combination lucrative enough to make a team holding the #1 pick pull the trigger. Maybe a Brett Favre/Packer Hall of Fame package could do it, but that is another sport, so it's really just silly. TrackBack
Comments Just so it's out there, the name of my second child is riding on the pro prospects of Travis the Weiner Diener. Because the name of my first child is already Jared George Joynt because of my Whoopi Goldberg from Ghost-quality fortune telling ability about little known Dwayne Wade, I am predicting that the Weiner will last less time than Tony Bennet in the NBA (Tony Bennet the basketball player, not the crooner or football star). I don't know what my second child's name will be if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's not good.
