Basketball Great Michael Jordan Fired by Washington Wizard’s Owners Abe Pollin and Ted Leonsis
According to Dallas Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban, “you hate to say it, but I think MJ got used. Now, where are the Wizards? Both parties lose in all of this. Michael gets tainted, and the Wizards lose their No. 1 draw.” During his time at the Wizards, they became the most popular road draw and made $30 million, selling out every game. Michael Jordan, while playing for the Chicago Bulls in the ‘90s, led them to six NBA championship titles.
BET Founder Bob Johnson Wants Michael Jordan to Join Charlotte North Carolina’s New NBA Team
5-8-03. Bob Johnson, founder of Black Entertainment Television, has asked basketball legend, Michael Jordan to join his Charlotte expansion franchise. The two friends met at a Chicago Bulls game twelve years ago. According to Johnson, who purchased the yet-to-be-named team for $300 million, “absolutely I want him to be involved. He can play any role he wants to play, frankly.” Jordan is being shopped around by his representatives to other franchises, including the Chicago Bulls, whom he played for 13 years and the Atlanta Hawks, who are for sale.

The center position provides an interesting dilemma for Fantasy Basketball owners. With only one legitimate star at the position ( Shaq ), should you forgo the position early and take two randoms in the last couple of rounds or proceed as normal and try fill the position with the best player available when presented the opportunity? I'd go with the former you're better off solidifying other spots with premium talent than settling for an average player at center. There's plenty of ham n' egger depth at center that you should be able to score a couple of sleepers late in the draft ( Tony Battie Dan Gadzuric Jerome James ) to adequately do the job. (Players may also qualify at positions listed in parenthesis.)

    The End of Days

It’s one thing when former players ( Tracy McGrady ) are ripping your team and general manager, but it’s a completely different ball of wax when a current player does it. Doug Christie’s press conference on Wednesday could simply be a fading basketball talent whining about leaving the only town that ever loved him. Or it could be the type of smoke to suggest there is a fire in the Magic organization.
Weisbrod has had his share of hits – like the drafting of Dwight Howard and Jameer Nelson – but the majority of his moves have been misses.
Selling the 7th pick (36 overall) of the 2nd round to Memphis for cash considerations.
Throwing the 1st pick (30 overall) of the 2nd round in on the Drew Gooden for Tony Battie trade.

These moves are especially curious when the Chicago Bulls were able to trade their 2nd round pick (31 overall) and a future 1st round pick to the Phoenix Suns for the 7th overall pick (Luol Deng).
    Keith Bogans for Brandon Hunter.

    Mid-Season Report Card

Yup, it’s that time again. The Magic Report Mid-Season Report Card is here. While some players are coasting towards an A, others are dangerously close to failing. Find out who is doing what below.
    GM
    John Weisbrod
    - The Dwight Howard pick looks to be a winner. Although Emeka Okafor is putting up better numbers and on pace for the Rookie of the Year honor, he’s also the focal point of the Bobcat offense – something Dwight surely is not here in Orlando. The jury is still out on the Jameer Nelson draft day deal. He’s shown flashes of being a major contributor for this team, but with Steve Francis in front of him when will Jameer find the time to shine?
The offseason’s major free agent signing (Hedo Turkoglu) has turned out to be a major coup. I was unsure Hedo could play at the level he has, so hats off to Weisbrod for bringing him on board. The Drew Gooden-Anderson Varajeo trade did net Tony Battie, but it surely could have brought back more. Gooden is having an All-Star type season in Cleveland, while – until a recent injury sidelined him – Varajeo was bringing his high energy rebounding and quickness off the bench for the Cavs. As for the Cuttino Mobley/Doug Christie swap, it depends on who you ask. If the move was made so the Magic wouldn’t have to commit money beyond next season, then you can reason with it. However, if Weisbrod doesn’t use his financial flexibility to make a big splash in free agency in ’07 (LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Kirk Hinrich) this trade will move into the loser category.
