Ray Suarez joins Greg Anthony, former NBA point guard and current ESPN analyst, and Jack McCallum, senior writer for Sports Illustrated, for a look at the fallout from Friday's player-fan basketball brawl.
RAY SUAREZ: It all began with a foul. Indiana Pacer Ron Artest fouled Detroit Piston Ben Wallace with 45 seconds left in the game. That quickly turned into a player brawl, with coaches and officials pulling players away from each other. But moments later, the fighting moved to the stands after Ron Artest was hit by a beverage cup thrown by a spectator. He was joined by teammate Stephen Jackson. MIKE BREEN: Fans and players are going at it, the players trying to help each other out. BILL WALTON: This is a disgrace. RAY SUAREZ: Artest eventually climbed out of the stands and took on another fan who had come onto the floor. MIKE BREEN: Now another fight's breaking out, in front of the Pistons' bench. It's a fan on the court; this is very, very dangerous. RAY SUAREZ: In the mayhem, Pacers Jermaine O'Neal threw this punch. And across the court, someone off camera hurled a chair into the crowd. The scene degenerated further as fans dumped beer, cups and trash on the players as they were escorted off the court and the game was called. Pistons' coach, Larry Brown, afterward, was stunned.

    http://www.greghornjudge.com/olympic_USA_basketball_team_2004.htm
    • 2004 USA OLYMPIC BASKETBALL TEAM POSTER The players for America's basketball team are: Front row: Tim Duncan, Stephon Marbury, Allen Iverson, Lebron James, Richard Jefferson Back Row: Amare Stoudemire, Shawn Marion, Dwayne Wade, Lamar Odom, Carmelo Anthony, Carlos Boozer, Emeka Okafor Olympic team pics of Ameka Okafor, Duane Wade, Labron James, Tim Duncun, Richard Jeferson, Sean Marion, Carmello Antony, Alen Iversen, Stephen Marbury, and Dwyane Wade. This US team took a lot of critique, which was very annoying considering that these were the guys who said "Yes, I'll play for my country", while the team's original members were making every excuse not to play (9 of the 11 best US players had declined to play). Anyway, the opposing teams were against them, the international rules were against them, the Athens crowd was embarrassingly against them, the threat of terrorist attack was against them (they had to sleep on a ship guarded by Navy SEALs), their own country was against them, they were playing without 9 of their best players, AND they only had one week of practice together. With all these stifling, suffocating burdens and distractions heaped on their backs, the international teams still failed to eliminate the US team from the medal round where they got the Bronze. Anybody who complains about this team is a shithead. Allstate Insurance contacted me early in the year to illustrate this postera great compliment since the poster has been traditionally photographed since 1992! Due to various circumstances, we did not have a final roster for about 3 months as many players dropped off the team. Once we were given the final roster date, we realized there would only be 1 week to turn in the completed art!! Yikes! Not enough time to create a painting with this much detail and likenesses, so I came up with a plan to get the illustration done in a timely manner: First, I painted the Parthenon, sky, and rocks in advance with no players at all. Then, I painted the jerseys only. This way, as we found out who the players were, I could simply paint them into their uniforms in the final week! This was an incredibly awkward way to paint, but it worked and everybody was happy.

Aspiring basketballers going through their paces on the final day of the three-day upgraded coaching segment of the Jeff Rogers Basketball Camp at the GC Foster College yesterday. There will be an exhibition game today between the Jeff Rogers Invitational and the NBL All-Star teams, starting at 8:30 pm at the National Indoor Sports Centre. (Photo: Hurbun Williams) The five-day NBA-style Jeff Rogers Basketball Camp ended at GC Foster College yesterday with "a lot of positives". It prompted NBA basketball great Greg Anthony to observe that Jamaica has the talent to produce basketballers "of the same calibre to rank with her great athletes, cricketers and footballers".
He warned, however, that "this will not come overnight. It takes time to produce good athletes... it takes much more than talent to become great". For this reason, he said, camps such as the one just ended were especially important. "This is not my first time in Jamaica and my observation is that you have phenomenally talented athletes here... The question is whether you can get some of these athletes to make basketball their number one sport. I think there is enough talent to go the rounds for the young people to have a choice whether it will be cricket, football or basketball.

    40. Bo Kimble & Greg Anthony
of the basketball baggage that an eventful season would place upon them.I focused on two players in particular, UNLV s greg anthony and LMU s Bo Kimble
    http://www.sportshistory.us/kimble-anthony.html
On ESPN Classic the other night was a game that I found really intriguing: a 1989 preseason NIT matchup between UNLV and Loyola Marymount. I found it interesting that ESPN chose to replay this game because the two teams would meet in a much more meaningful game later that season in the NCAA tournament. But I watched this game for a couple reasons: first, it had Hank Gathers, who would die in the first game of LMU's postseason tournament, and second, because the players in this game were still just college kids, without any of the basketball baggage that an eventful season would place upon them. I focused on two players in particular, UNLV's Greg Anthony and LMU's Bo Kimble. In this preseason game, only the uniforms really distinguished the two players. But now they look about as different as night and day, which made me wonder: which one would I choose to be? Greg Anthony was the floor general for a UNLV team that won the 1990 NCAA championship and featured several NBA lottery picks. He has had a good NBA career, serving primarily as a backup point guard and defensive specialist. When kids dream about a career in the pros, they never think of him, but anyone who aspires to play in the pros should be happy to end up as a Greg Anthony. Bo Kimble did not have an NBA career to speak of, but he was the object of children's playground aspirations. After Hank Gathers, the nation's leading scorer, died on the court in March of 1990, Bo Kimble led his 11th seeded team on an amazing run to the conference finals that included a convincing win over defending champion Michigan. Kimble honored the memory of Gathers both as a leader (he helped fill the void by averaging over 35 points per game) and as a friend (he shot the first free throw of each game left handed in memory of Hank). He made the cover of Sports Illustrated, and for at least a couple weeks he replaced Magic and Michael as the player that youngsters wanted to “be”.
