The deal will keep him with the club through the 2008-09 campaign. The 46-year-old Ainge took over his current position on May 9, 2003. This past season, Boston captured the Atlantic Division title and the third seed in the Eastern Conference. The Celtics were then eliminated from the postseason in the first round by the Indiana Pacers. "On behalf of our organization, I am pleased that Danny has signed an extension to his contract to be with us for the next several years," said Celtics managing partner Steve Pagliuca. "Danny is a winner and over the last two years has brought an exciting group of young, talented players to Boston, has attracted a terrific coach in Doc Rivers, and together they have delivered our first Atlantic Division championship for many years. He is committed to making the Celtics championship contenders once again." Ainge played for the Celtics from 1981-89 and helped lead the team to championships in 1984 and 1986. He finished his career with Boston averaging 11.3 points and 4.4 assists per game, while hitting 38.6 percent of his three- point shots.
