Bring Antoine Walker back to Boston
View Current Signatures Sign the Petition To: Wyc Grousbeck, CEO; Danny Ainge, Executive Director of Basketball Operations, Arnold "Red" Auerbach, President; Chris Wallace, General Manager; Boston Celtics Organization.
We, the undersigned, urge Wyc Grousbeck, Red Auerbach, Danny Ainge, Chris Wallace and the rest of the Boston Celtics organization to bring back Antoine Walker as a member and co-captain of the Boston Celtics via trade or off-season acquisition. We believe it is time for Danny Ainge to admit to his major error of previously trading Walker and underestimating his impact on and off the court to the organization and the city of Boston.
The Celtics with Walker reached the Eastern Conference Finals and Semi-Finals in back-to-back seasons. The Celtics without Walker are at best a perennial sub .500 team struggling to reach the playoffs.
It is obvious to the undersigned, that the combination of Paul Pierce and Antoine Walker is still an extremely potent one, and one that would pay dividends if surrounded by the quality role players that the Celtics already have. It is also clear to the undersigned, that Paul Pierce is not the leader that Walker once was and desperately needs Walker to shoulder some of the responsibility in order for the Celtics to once again become a successful team.
Not only was Antoine Walker effective on the court, he was also an active contributor to the community while a member of the Boston Celtics and continues to be active while a member of other teams. Walker is a founder of "The 8 Foundation". The mission of the 8 Foundation is to provide positive life experiences and opportunities for inner-city youth while fostering stable and loving environments for young people living in Boston and Antoine’s hometown of Chicago. In addition, the Foundation supports single parents. Other charity foundations founded or assisted by Walker include The Real Deal Program, Camp 8, The AAU Program, and Walker's Wigglers. Walker is also a winner of the NBA's Community Assist Awards, which recognizes players for their charitable efforts on a monthly basis.

The Danny Ainge Effect
By Dan Richard Published: Thursday, February 26, 2004 The trade happened. I stared at my computer in disbelief. How could we drop the ball yet again? No folks, I'm not talking about that guy who got traded to the Yankees. This is all about Chucky Atkins and Lindsay Hunter, the newest members of the Boston Celtics, or should I call them the Danny Ainges?
So, as most of Boston is getting into Red Sox mode, the Celtics are becoming unrecognizable to even their most diehard fans. Last year, when Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck announced Danny Ainge as the new general manager of the Boston Celtics, I was filled with optimism. As an analyst, I respected his opinion and felt that he could infuse some new life into the franchise.
Well, from the looks of the wreck he has created, I couldn't be more wrong. Since his arrival, he has traded away the core of the team that was within two games of going to the NBA Finals in 2002. While I understand that they were not a championship-caliber team, they at least kept the fan base excited. How can the fan base get excited with consistent poor trades and the philosophical differences with Coach Jim O'Brien that ran O'Brien out of town?

Thanks, But No Thanks
By Jon Pollack Published: Thursday, October 30, 2003
I once remember him launching a few three's to win a few games. I once remember him being an agitator in his sport. I once remember that he was a pretty good baseball player in his day. I once remember he wouldn't give me an autograph while he wasn't dressed to play, and injured during a game. No, not Larry Legend. No, not the Chief. No, not Mr. McHale. #44 silly, Danny Ainge.
Change can be good, the new Celtics will gel in due time, they will make the playoffs and possibly get into the second round. In time, the team will become better, because #44 is back on the floor with the Celtics. Ahhh, doesn't Ainge bring an aura of winning with him? The 17th championship will come soon - I can taste it. Oh, and Antoine, about a new contract and a chance to take the Celts to the next level, thanks - but no thanks.

Vols open Maui Invitational with a bang By MIKE STRANGE, strange2@knews.com
November 24, 2004
LAHAINA, Hawaii - It's a start. Tennessee's 69-57 win over Stanford in the opening round of the EA Sports Maui Invitational on Monday night got the Vols on track to fulfilling the goal they brought on the long trip to paradise. The second step was against No. 11 North Carolina in the semifinals. "Last night we were in a meeting,'' UT coach Buzz Peterson said, "and I asked the guys what's the one word that's on all of their minds? What were they thinking about when it comes to what they want to prove. "Immediately, they said respect.'' Beating Stanford, a program that has averaged 25 wins a year for the past decade, ranks as one of the biggest non-SEC wins of the Peterson era at UT. There was little time to celebrate it, however. The Vols (1-0) were back at the Lahaina Civic Center for a 9:30 p.m. (EST) tipoff on Tuesday. The Tar Heels (1-1) routed Brigham Young 86-50 earlier Monday, advancing to the semis along with Texas and Iowa.

He set an NCAA record with 112 consecutive games scoring in double digits and broke the BYU and WAC all-time scoring records with 2,467 points. As a senior in 1981, Ainge led BYU to the 1981 Eastern Regionals. He concluded his senior season by winning the Eastman Award as well as the John Wooden Award — given annually to the top collegiate basketball player in the nation. Ainge beat out Isiah Thomas (Indiana), Sam Bowie (Kentucky), Mark Aguirre (DePaul) Ralph Sampson (Virginia) and Steve Johnson (Oregon State) to win the Wooden Award. In doing so, he became the fifth winner of the award, joining Marques Johnson, Larry Bird, Phil Ford and Darrell Griffith. As a two-sport star, Ainge was drafted by both the Toronto Blue Jays for baseball and the Boston Celtics for bas-ketball. After playing four seasons with the Blue Jays, he chose to pursue an NBA career.

Ainge works a quick deal for 'Plan A' Marcus
By Jimmy Golen
ASSOCIATED PRESS WALTHAM, Mass. The Boston Celtics got the point guard they needed, but they had to do some dealing to get him. The Celtics ended up with UNLV point guard Marcus Banks and Texas high schooler Kendrick Perkins, who was drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies and traded to Boston for its two first-round picks. "This was Plan A," said Danny Ainge, the Celtics' head of basketball operations. "He was a guy we felt we were not going to get at 16." Memphis got Boston College guard Troy Bell, whom the Celtics took with the 16th pick, and Dahntay Jones from Duke, the 20th overall pick. The Celtics also had the 56th overall pick in the draft. Banks, who was the 13th overall pick, won a national championship in junior college and then went to UNLV, where he averaged 16 and 20 points and 3.3 and 5.5 assists in two seasons. He was among the best defensive point guards in college, and he will take some of the ballhandling responsibilities away from Antoine Walker. "His strength is speed. That's why we got him," Ainge said. "It would be silly not to have Marcus Banks running with the basketball in his hands. It allows Antoine Walker and Paul Pierce to play more of their natural positions."

Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics were a very dominant basketball team in the '80s. They were led by Larry Bird, and coached by KC Jones. Here are a few pictures and words about my favorite players from those teams.
#33...Larry Bird! Larry Bird epitomized '80s basketball: hustle, shoot the 3, and just win baby! No power forward before could combine Bird's deft passes with his deadly 3 point shot. Larry Bird was definitely "Pretty Fly for a White Guy!"
#32...Kevin McHale Kevin McHale killed people with his drop step and hook shot. He was impossible to stop, as Elvin Hayes tried in vain to do on this card. McHale was a treat to watch, and he was a "lunch bucket" player, who would do whatever it took to win!
#00...Robert Parrish "Chief" Parrish put a lot of people to shame with his quick moves to the basket, and his blocked shot prowess. Chief put lots of points on the board, and the Celtics were lucky enough to get Parrish in a trade with the Golden State Warriors.
#3 Dennis Johnson Dennis Johnson wasn't the fastest player, wasn't the best shooter, wasn't the strongest, or the tallest. But DJ had heart, and he laid it all out on the table every time he played. Exciting to watch every time, you never knew what DJ was going to do!

Danny Ainge hadn’t proven himself truly crazy until today, but sometimes it takes a mad scientist, like Dr. Emmett Brown, to head back into the past and fix previous mistakes for the benefit of the future. That’s what Ainge accomplished today when he reacquired Antoine Walker for Gary Payton, Tom Gugliotta, and Yogi Stewart, a move made in response to the trade that brought Chris Webber to Philadelphia.
Take a look at the net personnel moves Ainge has made since taking over the team. (It’s too complicated to break it down trade-by-trade). When Ainge took over, the Celtics had J.R. Bremer and Tony Delk playing point guard. Now they have Delonte West and Marcus Banks. While Delk had always provided scoring and clutch shooting, he was never a playmaker.
Antoine Walker played more point guard than anyone on that 02-03 team, and although he’ll lead some fast breaks this year, West and Banks will control the ball the remainder of the season. At this point, West and Banks aren’t better overall players than Delk at his peak (scored 53 points in one game), but they are more reliable ball-handlers. I’ll take two true point guards in their early 20s over a 31-year-old Tony Delk any day of the week. And who really cares about Bremer?
At the swing positions, look at how much better Pierce’s supporting cast is now than it was when Ainge took over. Instead of Kedrick Brown and Eric Williams, the Celtics have Ricky Davis and Tony Allen. I love Eric Williams, but Davis and Allen are a tremendous upgrade by anyone’s standards, especially when you consider Williams’s age and bad knees. Kedrick Brown falls into the same “Who Cares?” category as Bremer.
